After deciding to buy an EMTB I was able to get my wife interested in e-bike too. The problem was none of the local shops had a bike for her to ride in a small frame except for a Turbo Levo Expert at $8200 when she was having difficulty getting her mind around spending $5000 on a new EMTB. Wednesday this week we drove over the hill to Santa Cruz to visit Currents e-bike shop who had 4 2018 eBikes in stock, 2 Haibikes, one hardtail and one full suspension. They also had two versions of the Focus Jam2 plus, one with 27.5 wheels and 2.8” tires and one with 29r wheels and 2.6” tires. My wife Becky road all four bikes around the shop and nearby streets looking for the best fit. She was having trouble making a decision, so I suggested we go have some tacos and a beer and think on it for a while. When we returned to the shop she decided on the Focus Jam2 plus, she liked the color, black with bright blue accents, the components, and the 27.5 gave her the best stand over clearance, better than the 29r. Mike at Current eBikes gave her a discount on the bike as apparently Focus will not distribute in the USA in 2019. They also put a cushier WTB seat on for free and cut about an inch off each side of the handlebars for a better fit, she was a little under $5000 out the door with sales tax, a very good deal for the quality components she got.
With my new Specialized Turbo Levo Comp Carbon 29, we now both have new EMTB’s
I think I was more excited to see her decide on a good bike than I was when I got my new bike. Of course I will ride with my friends but we can now ride together like we did before 2013 when I was diagnosed with cancer, Multiple Myeloma. We are going to our condo at Northstar at Lake Tahoe October 11 for a long weekend and plan to do some riding then. Tomorrow we are going to do a local ride at Quicksilver park in San Jose to get more familiar with our new bikes. Both of us having EMTB’s is going to be great for our relationship by increasing the fun factor together. Photos of our ride tomorrow to follow
One thing we learned is that my old Hollywood rack was not designed for 2 EMTB’s so planning on getting a new more robust hitch mount bike rack, probably a Kuat
