Having trouble pulling the trigger to buy an ebike

Hi guys, been on this forum a month or two now after coming across it doing my research into what ebike to go for. I’ve made the decision on what bike to get and my local dealer has just the exact bike I want come in, in my size. I just keep stopping myself actually biting the bullet and buying it.

I’m 30 years of age and got back into mtbing last year. I’ve ridden motocross and enduro motorbikes since I was 16 but I’ve ridden less and less the last 2-3 years. I’ve lost the excitement and interest it used to give me. I bought a brand new KTM last year and have only covered 15 hours on it in 14 months, hence the reason going back to mtbing after roughly 12 years off one.
I do enjoy going out for a ride to cover some ground but steep uphill climbs do nothing for me lol. Which is the main reason I started looking at ebikes back in March. I also love going to bike parks and am very fortunate where I live that I’m 10 minutes away from bike park wales and also have another 5 parks within 30-40 minutes of me.
Now I’ve finally found the bike, its in my local dealers 10 minutes away and for some reason I’m having trouble committing to the purchase. I think it may be down to the fact I’ll have to sell my current analogue bike as I can’t afford to have that much money tied up in bikes at the moment due to being in the middle of building a house. I will be the only one out of my mates with an ebike, some of them are dead against them (typical nonsense how they’re for older people who struggle with a normal mtb and you cant use them as well at bike parks etc) when none of them have actually had a go of one to really comment. I suppose I’m more worried about going to the bike parks and spending most of my time riding on my own as my mates either won’t be able to keep up or will have to use the uplifts. Half the reason I want one too is to get more runs in at the bike parks so peddaling up with them to the top kind of defeats the object.

Anyone found themselves in the same predicament and can offer some advice?

It's a tough call. I've only been to BPW once and loved it but I felt that it was geared more towards out and out down hill bikes and the uplift service. The ride up is quite time consuming and a little boring even on an e-bike although the single track route up is a little more entertaining I suspect it would also get tedious after a few repeats. I ride mostly at FOD and it's a no brainer, the e-bike wins hands down. I suppose it depends upon where you intend riding and the cost equation. I suspect overall the e-bike wins out even though they do charge more for one at BPW.

I'm 72, if I was 30 and lived that close to BPW I would be investing my money in an annual pass and an out and out none electric hard core downhill bike.

I'm sure that other people may have felt this way, but in my experience, once I was ready to buy an e-bike, it became an all-consuming thing - I had to have one, no doubt whatsoever in my mind.

If you're not of a similar frame of mind, I'd suggest that you're not ready yet. You clearly have other priorities, and nothing takes the edge off a "should I? Shouldn't I?" purchase quite like buyer's remorse...

You only live once so they say which is wrong you live every day, you only die once. Pick up the phone now and buy that bike before someone else does, and that won’t be long as bikes are in short supply. Sell your old bike on here in classified. I sold my cube within 36 hours of advert when I bought my new bike. Just do it and get out riding. Pull that trigger. (y)

I do a fair bit of riding out of parks too, not including bike park days I’ve done little over 400 miles in the last 2 and a half months. I get out in the evenings after work and weekends when I can. Although I enjoy the parks I’ve gone past wanting an all out down hill bike. A bike with 160mm travel will handle any of the trials over bpw and I’m also recovering from a fractured shoulder blade from my last trip at bpw 2 weeks ago ? so I’ll have to avoid the bigger jumps for the next couple of months haha.

This is the thing, I’m looking at them day in day out. I had a new analogue bike this year and even then I still found myself looking at ebikes the following day. I think I just need to do it.

Haha thats the type of post I need? I think you’re right, just bite the bullet and go for it. My current bike is only a few months old and with the current second hand market how it is, it shouldn’t take long to sell.

I’ve done it, just put a deposit down, going over tomorrow to pay for it. Gone for the 2021 whyte E160 RS. Thanks for the replies, I couldn’t have gone over it in my head any more than I have so I just thought bugger it, I won’t be happy until I buy one so its done ?
Worst thing will be having it in the shed snd not being able to ride it for a few weeks due to this broken shoulder ?

Nice one, you won’t regret it. Put a pic up of it in the new thread on Whyte bikes section show us your Whyte bits. (y)

Aw! You've made your decision, before I could get a chance to persuade you to buy one! :(

But what a bike to choose! Please give us a write up when you've had chance to give it a proper go. :)

I’ve done it

It is amazing what 94 minutes on this forum does to people!

You were extremely lucky to find your first choice of bike available locally at the moment.

You would have been very annoyed if you had continued trying to decide for a bit longer, then decided you wanted it and found it had been sold.

After you have had a few rides on it you will no longer feel any guilt for buying it.

It won't be long before most of your mates want them too after seeing yours.

It will be even better after you have spent a few weeks looking at it in the shed; think what it felt like waiting for Christmas when you were 10 years old.

Haha it was definitely this forum that swayed me.

Yes you’re right there, they’re selling like hot cakes at the moment and 2021 models are being snapped up in an instance.

My mate is taking me to the shop tomorrow as I can’t drive due to being in a a sling and he’s just told me this evening he’s already been looking at them. Hopefully once he’s had a go of mine it will twist his arm to get one with me?

N9VNS...well done sir !
If I could I would just like to congratulate you on your exceptional taste ( I bought the same bike and collected it earlier this month ) ..
Its a fantastic bike and having been forced to endure a long lay-off due mainly to a knee injury its re-kindled my passion for riding .
This is my first ebike ..the previous was a Whyte t130 rs which I loved ..but has now become a present to my 17 year old son ..but in terms of sheer fun there is no comparison between the two ..and isn't that why we do what we do ?
Have a great time !?
