I have a Moots Express gravel ebike with a Shimano EP8 system. The drivetrain consists of Shimano XT Linkglide components with Shimano Ultegra shifters integrated into to system. The system also uses the SC-EN600 controller which the shifters are integrated to the controller.
I am new to the Shimano systems. Is it possible to "axe" the Shimano drive components and use SRAM AXS drivetrain and manage the system via the controller?

You wouldn't be able to control any of the AXS system with the Shimano controllers. But the AXS system would come with it's own shifters.

If you wanted "cable" free shifting you could switch to a Shimano DI2 system.

You have the EP801 motor I think, so you might be able to set the DI2 system up with Autoshift.

The Moots Express has the DI2 11spd Drive Train. This rig is my first Shimano driven bike in a very long time. It has all the two different assist modes that apparently Moots has created, an Explorer mode - 4 levels of assist that is designed around riding gravel. The second mode is Jaunt that has three levels and when in that mode the desire mileage is not at all like the Explorer mode.
If I loose the Shimano components and swap out to SRAM AXS I would loose that shifter integration to the EP8 drive.
But the drive would still produce and would be functional using the controller.
This may need to be a question directly to Shimano.

The motor will still operate as normal if you have the di2 system connected or disconnected.

You'll obviously lose the extra di2 options with the ep801, but I guess you're not using them. You'll also lose the gear display.

Out of curiosity, why would you want to change from one electronic shifting option which is well integrated and doesn't need batteries, to another electronic shifting option which wouldn't be integrated and would require batteries ?
