how much does it cost for these new parts? bit frustrating paying £5600 on a bike and having to buy parts after just a couple of weeeks of ownership! and to top it off have scratched up chain stay where the chain scraped the paint off

Someone has put a claim in for the replacement chainstay - apparently 6 month wait on that.

And yeah it's just not on ( Lol don't get me started on how shit Haibike are! )

If you can afford to shell out £5600 on a new bike for the shear hell of it, lets face it, there was nothing wrong with our normal bikes, then a few hundred quid if you want to fix it yourself quickly is a drop in the pond.

Everyone's opinion is a valid one and glad you're happy fella. Think we can all agree that the issue will be dealt with at some point. Rather than the points above, the failure to respond and keeping customers (and probably lbs) informed is my issue - something they should be doing as a business, even if it's a "sorry this could take 10 weeks but we'll keep you informed". And that's why I think they are shit

Finding out through feedback on this page that someone has found an actual permanent solution is a great option to consider now it's been discovered - and if the parts can be sourced a pretty decent upgrade.

I'm in that half way house at the moment where I have great communication from Haibike and the bike shop but nothing has actually come of it yet. I'm trying to stay positive as I do love this bike, it is amazing to ride and handles like a dream. I can do stuff that I couldn't before and I'm not talking just about the big steep never ending climbs.

What a coincidence, I have just posted this message and the bike shop phoned to say they have been in touch with Haibike again. They will replace the damaged chainstay and the chainring under warranty and will also wire in and fit my new Lezyne 1000 light FOC. Parts won't be available until early March but they will keep me informed. Maybe they are monitoring these sites too. Anyway guys, keep pushing. I have been in touch with Haibike via messenger and email (details on their website) and the bike shop via their head office.

I've sourced the alternative now but to anyone waiting on an update from Haibike/LBS - I finally got a response to one of my many communications this morning

"Replacement chain rings are now in the country and have been sent out to dealers that have requested them under warranty".

Also quoted that only a handful of people affected by this, which I'd make an assumption and say they are like for like replacements and not modified. Maybe it was just a bad day on the chain ring production. Either way I'm sticking with Wolftooth.

2. Does the 36T wolf tooth chain ring affect the riding c/w the 38T haibike original chain ring?

1 - Straight swap... Haibike are 165 (On my XL) - If I was getting them I'd go for 155 to aid clearance.
2 - No - it's just a couple of mm smaller
3 - Don't believe so, unless they have a couple of variants - they are using it on the new SE model which has Sram components.

That's the million dollar question - It was probably just a dodgy batch and hasn't affected everyone (way more than Haibike have claimed though imo)

Me personally, those chain rings ain't going no where near my bike again regardless of if I use Shimano or Sram - The shimano 12spd chain works abs. fine with a properly matched chainring (Wolftooth)

BTW - My lbs today said the replacements chain rings aren't due for another 2 weeks when I called this morning, so Haibike UK told me porky pies last week.

Interested to see if the thick teeth on the replacement sprox are now thinner on the warranty sprox. My bike has had no suck in 140 mikes - but I noticed the shimano split link was the only part of my chain that stuck on the original sprocket (when clean...). The Sram split link I'm using has more clearance. Messed about by Italian ebay spider supplier for 6 weeks! Now refunded & we start again...

Those 38t chainrings look to run very close to the chain stay, plus the chainline looks to be extremely close to the rear tire in the biggest cog, meaning mud is going to get caked on the chain, then clog up the chain device, and start causing issues, and cause premature wear to the drivetrain.. All not helped if the OEM chainring isn't a good design in the first place. A decent 36t chainring might help solve the issue on its own, 38 is a bit of a monster in the first place!

Aside from mud build up wrongly sized chain would be the most obvious cause, but this we be more of a case of chain slap than suck, I dont think running the clutch on or off would make much of a difference if the drivetrain is getting caked up excessively and the chain is binding on the chainring due to the design. - I would also check that chain is correctly located on the right teeth for the narrow wide configuration, this is a pretty common mistake to make and can cause the chain to bind on the chainring.

Aside from that have people checked the derailleur alignment? Not uncommon for this to be not perfect out the box and again could cause said issues especially if tolerance are tight.

Primary cause of chain suck on an MTB will always IMO be the drivetrain getting clogged up or being poorly setup/maintained, shouldn't really be happening on a newish bike.

Yeah wolftooth 36t is the way to go, better clearance, mud shifting etc and you can see the difference when you compare it to the Haibike one (Also compared to my XT chainring).
