I'm also in Vancouver and use the MT500 on days I know it's definitely going to rain. I used to find any sort of second layers too warm when on a regular bike, but with the ebike things are much better and I can regulate my temperature.

thanks for the response...i just received the R7 Shakedry Trail the other day and have ridden with it these past 2 days which you can appreciate have been very wet. So far i'm very happy with it....wore a merino base layer underneath and the jacket...hour and a half ride with constant rain the kept dry and temperature was good. glad to hear the MT500 is working for you. i'm thinking the R7 will be pretty versatile because its so light and very packable....pretty sure its going to be a keeper for me.

Definitely a good option to have a lighter jacket as well. Today is too wet for me. Maybe tomorrow I’ll be out.

First impressions:

Use - mountain biking; trails and road en-route to trails; hiking

Likes - most waterproof jacket i've owned and i have a few other goretex jackets; very breathable hard shell; light as a feather; theres a small piece of material in the hood that keeps it in place so it doesn't slip back off your head...works well

Dislikes or nice to haves - more pockets - there is only one chest pocket and just big enough to fit my iphone 12 mini - not a big deal as i always ride with a backpack or hip pack; the zipper could be bigger..just seems a bit small and finicky to grab onto; the material on the cuffs get wet and take a while to dry...while they are comfortable, i think they should have just used all goretex; would be nice if there were brighter colours available...it does have reflective stripes but i ride at night and am on the road on route to the trails so brighter would be better.

Unknowns - will waterproofing continue to be as good as new, durability...note, it is rated to be used with a light pack.

thanks for the heads up.

i've been very happy with the shakedry..does not wet out like my other goretex stuff and breaths very well. i ride quite a bit in the rain and while i think the neoshell is a great material from what i've read, its more of a breathable>waterproof. pretty pricy too....here's another link to a review of the specialized.
