Giant Trance X Adv E+1 (2023) won't switch on

Hey all
I wanted to share this experience with you. Firstly I have a 2021 Giant Revolt E+ and have done 2500kms, a 2020 Merida E160 10k with 4000kms and retrofitted an EP800 and done 500kms on it. Both bikes have been faultless apart from an issue with Merida in 2021 where it turned off. It was resolved by adjusting the battery mount. I also have a Giant Anthem Adv Pro 0 with Fox Live valve with no issues. I've owned a Giant Anthem 29 alloy, Defy Advanced, Fastroad and old XTC2, so I support the brand. Back in 2020, if it wasn't for 27.5 wheels and alloy frames, I would have bought a Trance E in 2020.

Anyways, last year, I bought a Giant Trance X Adv E+1 (2023) Airglow. 28% discount so couldn't complain. After 3 months of ownership and about 450kms, on an urban ride with my friend, the bike auto turned off. After a meal, we were heading home I attempted to turn on the bike and the 3 left buttons on the RideControlGo lit up and went dead. I tried to start it to no avail.

Out of fear of riding a long way home, I thought I would try and start the bike whilst in motion. I then pressed the Power button and the bike turned on and I rode home with power assistance.

When I got home I turned the bike off and tried to turn on again and it would not start. However, I rode and it started it whilst riding again. Later on I attempted to start the bike with the Power button and no lights came on.

So off to an authorised Giant dealer. They ran diagnostic and found Error 21 occurred (motor communication failure). Updated bike software and recalibrated torque and incline sensor. Tested it and said it was OK. Since I didn't buy from them they charged me $44 and advised if the error persists, take it back to selling dealer.

So I go for a short ride again when I got the bike and error occurred. Also something funny happened. On my Garmin 830 Edge, it popped up an error 'Ebike battery sensor low'. The Trance battery was about 80% and Edge had heaps of juice left. That was a bit puzzling.

Anyways this week I took it to the dealer on Monday morning. I didn't hear anything from them until Thursday, so I thought I would reach out to them. They advised they had contacted Giant Australia Head Office and ebike person was away this week and will advise me.

I suspect perhaps they ran the diagnostics and couldn't work out the issue. When droppiung the bike off they advised it could be a crimped wire or something? I have seen some people advise on this forum that some bikes cannot be fixed and Giant have offered an exchange.
Anyways, I let the bike shop know this issue is not fit for purpose and I have concerns about being stranded again. Thankfully I provided detailed videos of the issue occuring, so they cannot say it is an intermittent error.

I also flagged with them that if this cannot be resolved, I am amendable to buying a Giant Trance X Adv Elite Pro 0 (2022 Mirage black) plus extra cash.

So has anyone had an experience like this before?

Which LED turned on?

Perhaps this could shed some light on what’s going on?
2022 Regin fault code.

“some bikes cannot be fixed” all machines can be fixed, it’s a matter of whether the talent that can do it is accessible or not, or whether or not it is “economical” to do so.

As a data point, I have a 2023 model year Reign E also, and I had a similar issue to you (check my post history). But my LBS is competent, they found the issue and rectified it. It was some issue with a wiring harness. Took about a week. I’ve completed almost 1000 km since then, mostly on really harsh terrain as my riding progresses and not had any issues.

Well I am waiting now for it to be resolved. If they can fix it, cool, if not, I am not going to die in a ditch over it. I still have 1 year and 9 months of warranty to go and really don't care. The more they cannot fix it, the stronger rights of recourse under consumer law. Further this aint my first rodeo on an ebike.

If you read my post, the Giant shop in Brisbane will seek advice from Giant Aus.

The warning lights was on the LHS and RHS and the three lights lit up sequentially from bottom to top and then went dead.

I read your post - no redlights and no warning so its not your issue per se.

I have videos of it but its on whatsapp but it wont allow me to upload them.

Can you try uploading it to imgur.com? If you download them your camera roll it should allow you to. Keep us posted.

Yes my 2021 does the same. You can read about it on these other threads.

Well that person's bike wont switch on even if they are riding it.

Keen to hear your thoughts rather than a 'refer to my other posts' which I cannot find anything about....

Really mate, there are literally 3 threads in the top 15 about this issue and I have written about my current journey of trying to fix this issue in two of the threads in depth. I gave the link to one of them, which would take you to the other too. I don't have the time to keep rewriting everything in all the threads. My journey continues with getting new parts and replacing them in stages to determine which is the problematic part which I will document to help others.
IMHO your comment doesn't really help the case and I just answered to help. And STRANGELY you posted a reply just two posts below a post of mine on the one of the other threads. "Keen to hear your thoughts "...... I suggest you check out my posts on the other threads.

With forums, since you don't know people from a bar of soap, you don't know if they are genuine or unhelpful. Upper case and condescending makes me surmise you are the latter. All good because I dont know you from a bar of soap.

I have read about your posts about your 'used' 2021 Trance X E+ 3 that came from an adventure park that got washed with a pressure washer. Sure, I see you have tried to replace parts and a motor overhaul.

I might like you remind you that your Trance is running Giant SyncDrive Pro, 625W battery and Giant RideControl Ergo. Mine is running Giant SuncDrive Pro 2 motor, 800W battery, RideControl Ergo 3 and RideControlGo. Further my bike is new and ever been washed.

As for me I will continue to wait for my new bike to be fixed / resolved. I have no doubt it will be. As you for you, best wishes, buying used can be high risk as you have found out.

Totally understand where you come from and I totally understand your frustrations with a new bike with issues. Also understand that your bike is a later generation. Only posted on your thread with the hope that you might glean some info to pass on to your shop to get your bike fixed. All the best with getting it sorted.:)

Update

The bike is back after 3 weeks away. They have installed a new Giant RideControlGo controller (downtube), applied dielectric grease and recalibrated some stuff.

I tested it for about 5 mins and it seems OK but the next test will be going on a longer ride.

As part of the process, the LBS was working with Giant Australia in diagnosing the issue. They said if it has this issue again, a new motor will be installed. I have 1 year and 9 months to go for warranty.

Hope it is now sorted and all your troubles are a thing of the past.
Mine is still a work in progress.
I have seen your posts. Were you trying to fix the bike at home or did you seek the services of an authorised Giant dealer. Giant Australia provides technical support to dealers.

I am fixing it at home as the dealers here didn't really know what they were doing. I have a new ride control, wiring loom, Ant/bluetooth unit and had the motor overhauled with new bearings as previous owners pressured washed the bike and water got into the bearings. The shop who overhauled the motor checked the motor controller board inside and they saw no signs of water or corrosion.
