Front spindle adjustment

Front spindle adjustment....My front spindle now tightens leaving the locking lever in an odd position. Photo1. Can I adjust it somehow so that the lever runs alongside the fork leg?? Can I undo the nut in photo2 and adjust?? Its changed because my front wheel bearings collapsed and I've upgraded the wheels

The lever pushes in against that spring and will rotate to wherever you want it to be.
