Hello, I am having difficulty locating the dimensions of the FOX 38 Factory crown on the FOX website. Could someone please provide me with a comparison of the dimensions of the FOX 38 Factory crown and the FOX 38 FIT Perf Grip Air crown? I currently have a FOX 38 FIT Perf Grip Air fork in Patron and am considering upgrading to the FOX 38 Factory fork, but I need to ensure that the Factory crown will fit my bike. Any assistance from the forum would be greatly appreciated.

I think there are two types of Fox38 crowns , small and large. Please have look on my pics
There are and its not related to the internal or coatings bottom of the range to factory specs can all have larger crown tops
The OEM forks seem to be the ones with the bigger crown to match the head tube size from new
I havent personally seen an option in after market but i also have not bought any forks for a while
So yes your right theres 2 different sizes too match lower steerer tubes on frames (y)

I assume it's the same sizing as Rockshox, the larger being 1.5" and the smaller (standard) being 1, 1/8"

You can fit a 1, 1/8 fork in a 1.5" frame with an adapter, but there are no 1.5 to 1, 1/8" adapters to fit a 1.5" into a 1, 1/8" frame.

I do remember someone on this site custom machining one though.

I'm pulling all of this from memory so please double check.

I think he is on about the cosmetic side of the fork not the bearing sizes
You can get large and small crown tops both with the same size bearings , its purely cosmetic as i explained above (y)

Can you post a comparison picture of those two crowns? The Fox webpage is useless.

Sorry, I got the numbers mixed up, I'm talking about a 1.8 super taper fork.

I can't find a fox specific picture but this one from suntour shows the difference.
Is this what your are talking about?
Is the fox fork on your patron the original fork?

I had a quick look and I'm not sure if Fox even make a 1.8 super taper fork.
Do you know what size head tube your patron has?

Same applies though, you can fit a 1.5 fork to a 1.8 head tube with an adapter but not the other way round.

Saying all this, if you have a fox 38 already, can you not just upgrade the damper?

This topic is really weird. You don't need to know crown measure, all crowns will fit. You need to know headtube measures (I bet all new emetb's are same tapered design) and how long the fork is and offset if you want it to have same. Simple.

Agree, I maybe confusing things with the super taper steerer talk.

I know some bikes have super taper head tubes, and looking at op's picture the head tube on the bike on the left looks larger than the one on the right?

It can catch people out who but a 1.5 fork and wonder why it doesn't fit, until they realise they need a head set adapter too.
This normally happens with people changing from Rockshox to Fox though.

Worse is people thinking they have bought a bargain fork on eBay only to find out it's a 1.8 that will never fit in their 1.5 frame.

But yeah, op just needs to know what size head tube it has and buy the correct fork.

But what is op trying to achieve? He says he already has a fox 38, I was under the assumption that any 38 could have a damper upgrade?

Unless he wants to change travel length, or just for the kashima coating🤷‍♂️

Fox lists the larger headtube fork as a 68HT. A regular bike would use a 58HT fork.
This is correct.
A 68HT fork is intended to produce a more esthetically appealing transition to the Larger head tube (outside dimension since internally they all accommodate a 1.5" lower headset bearing) on some Ebikes, which in turn were devised for better transition to the larger down tube containing the battery.
There are, of course, exceptions. For instance, Gen 3 Levos sport a smaller head tube outside dimension and therefore are better matched to a 58HT Fox 38.

If a Fox fork has a tapered steer tube (1 - 1/8 to 1.5") it will fit into any tapered headtube bearing set. My Fox Factory forks look like the ones on the right.

Yes both 58ht and 68ht forks exist in the OEM and aftermarket world. In 36 38 and awlHd
Head to ridefox.com and look under those e bike forks and you get the option. Hit me up if you need more info. I’m a fox distributor.

It will fit. This picture shows two different generations of fork. CSU for 38 and 38 ebike are the same. Your concern should be in getting the offset correct. Reach out if you need assistance. Looking at where you are at, it would cost prohibitive to ship parts from here- but can find you an EU dealer if needed.

Sorry mate but you are wrong. There are 68ht and 58ht options. Yes the stanchions are the same but the crown is not. You can use both in anything however on some e bikes the headtube would look like a fat chick sitting on a barstool eg. a rail with a 58ht fork and a 68ht headtube. Also a speclialized levo would look like American dad chin with the 68ht fork on a 58ht.
