hey guys,

Thinking of replacing my Rockshox Select 210x55mm rear shock with something to better match the adjustability of my new Fox 36 float grip fork

does anyone know if I can use a 210×55 instead of a 210x52.5mm shock? I want to say how much can 2.5 mm difference make but maybe it could cause issues? Has anyone out there tried it?

I thought I’ve already added 10 mm to the front so hey why not it can’t hurt! I wonder what the geometry is to add an even 10? :)
Thanks for the good news. ?

I was told by TFTuned that although it works Specialized may void the warranty. They will have chosen 52.5mm for a reason.

You can fit a spacer to convert a 50mm or 55mm shock to 52.5mm.

I have a nearly new DPS performance in the right size for sale if you are interested?

yes - an internal spacer changes the length of the stroke. Fox won't make loads of different shafts. They will use a se number and shim them down from max to min. In the case of the shock above it will be 55mm without a bumps stop It has a 2.5mm spacer in it so will only compress to 52.5mm. Alternatively you put in a 5mm so it compresses to 50mm. The eye to eye remains the same - only the stroke is shortened. But the stoke controls how far the suspension compresses. Whilst it seems that the frame won't hit itself at 55mm compression you have to ask why Specialized didn't put 55mm in in the first place (its a standard size after all)? 2.5mm more compression equates to around another 7mm of travel, so why not give that to the rider if there isn't a downside? Maybe to hit the 150/150?

Oh when you mentioned spacer for some reason I was thinking more a bushing, something externally. That makes complete sense thank you for explaining it to a noob like me! Happy trails!

No worries - it's been a steep learning curve, but I got talking with a friendly technician that was servicing a shock for me and asked him about how it all worked. Once he explained it it seemed obvious - but I hadn't considered it before.

I think I’m going to order order the 210 x 55 and take my chances on fitment. I just don’t know if I need different bushings I wish I could sort that out at the time of the order but the shop really isn’t being very helpful.

Ben I just got this now. Would it have the right bushings for my bike? I’m a bit concerned I’m going need something and not sure what to order. Or would I use the old ones out of the Rockshox deluxe select?

Whereabouts are you based and which shock did you buy? If it's new I would be inclined to run it and get it changed out at first service. If at all concerned about the frame maybe run the flip chip in the high setting to increase the tolerance. I don't think it's an easy procedure to carry out as you have to strip the shock down to insert the spacer. The part you are looking for is called a travel spacer. You'd need to find a way of holding the shaft and unscrewing the eyelet assembly. A Fox service center would have the tools and the spacers to do this for you (they didn't charge me for the spacer, they included it in the cost of the service in my case).

If in the UK I can recommend TFTuned, but have also used SilverFish UK who also did a good job. TFTuned would get my vote simply because the technician was super helpful in talking me through the options.

This forum post might be useful (although they are trying to achieve the opposite of what you are).

I'm in the UK. Not sure shipping would work out in your interest. If it helps though, the Tune ID on it (if you go on Fox website and type it tells you the specs of the shock) is D5NP. If you haven't bought yet, I'd suggest getting the 50mm travel one and get it lengthened by 2.5mm at first service.

How much do you want for it and could you check into the shipping price? I’m interested! I’m new here I’m not sure if you should PM me on this?

But can you lengthen eye-to-eye lenght? Asking for a friend
