And also the point of the big front rotor (200/203 or 223 etc) is that it stops you when you need it - Father rear brake might see more use, but the front brake is the one you rely on for really killing speed and control.
I ride MOTO so have always been rear brake biased 95% of the time, I guess it's what works for the rider.

My point isn't about which brake you use more, its about what each brake does. I ride pretty much every kind of motorbike there is, and its the same, its the front brake that stops you, the rear that slows you. Main thing is you use the rear way more if needed mid corner, or mid manoeuvre to alter the shape of the bike etc etc, so yes it may get more use, but its the fronts job to stop you in a hurry, and thats why find the bigger rotors up there, plus the fact its ahead of the mass rather than trailing it.

just dropped a Smashpot - Fork Coil Conversion System in my yari, so far it’s amazing. Tried running it at 170mm but made decoy 29 too slack for my liking. Dropped to 160mm which seems to be the sweet spot.

cool thing with this conversion is you can set travel internally from 150-180 so you can experiment. Also has hydraulic bottom out which is adjustable.. pretty awesome solution for 300$ usd.

for a 160mm fork yari chassis seems plenty stiff.

Hi did you need to change anything on the compression side or just stick with Yari original interns.

Still running stock moco damper...only running three clicks of compression, they are shimmed a little harsh, and about 6 clicks of rebound.

I did end up putting a Fox 38 on my Pivot Shuttle and I'm super happy with it. It mates up very well with the X2 shock I swapped onto the Shuttle as well. Very balanced feel, no perceptible flex in the front end, and I've always been a fan of the Grip 2 damper. I'm running it with very little compression damping, which works best for the stuff we ride. What is also interesting is how similar these forks are becoming to moto forks - bleeder valves, floating axles, etc...

I love the idea of the stiffer chassis, I have a Decoy 29 which I wanted to upgrade to 160mm in front. I know the 36 is fine but want the 38. Not sure where I will end up but curious of those buying the 38 and why?

@photocycycler - What did you end up getting?

I've got the same bike (Decoy29) and have a 38-factory on eternal backorder, but I'm thinking of canceling and sticking a Smashpot in my YT OE 36E+. Fox 36 chassis definitely flexes a bit, (plenty of back-flex under braking but that could be crown/steerer), my only major complaints of the 36E+ are lack of suppleness even @wide-open on compression damping, and some mid-stroke support under braking/g-outs/pumping off berms, etc. Especially compared to my Bomber CR out rear which much improved the ride over stock DPX2.

@seamarsh looks like they went this route and happy with it albeit on Yari chassis.

Good call on the Smashpot. I had a mullet decoy and have run a 180mm Yari, 180mm Lyrik Ultimate, 190mm Boxxer, and a 180mm Lyrik Ultimate with Smashpot and the Smashpot beats everything I’ve tried on that bike.

I'm not as aggressive a rider as you given your travel and DH choice, but I do feel the 36E+ doesn't take advantage of the travel it already has on big square-edge roots and rock hits, and at the same time also isn't great at sucking up the small trail noise/chatter to keep the wheel planted.

I'm just waiting to hear back from Steve on a few technical questions but I think this is the sanest path forward ($1200 Fox38 "experiment" is steep and could end up sticking a Smashpot in that anyway!).
