Hi
Looking at getting a new Santa Cruz Vala , it comes stock with 38 Performance grip forks (guessing there be E optimised )
I have found some super cheap new Non E optimised std Factory 38’s with grip 2 damper …….. which is going to be better in terms of feel and ride quality and plushness ?

I can't make heads or tails of all the various options from Fox. But... I'm completely sold on the Grip X2 damper. Can you stick an X2 damper in the fork that comes from the factory? It's only about $200-$250 for the damper. Ask your shop what they can do for you. Maybe they can stick on a Grip X2 fork for a nominal price. Maybe they can also cut you a deal on an X2 shock. It doesn't hurt to ask.

based on my experience if the Fox 38 is 2023 it will have the same damper tune as previous E bike tuned versions....which is far superior in every way. ( using the Grip2 damper)..............if it is a 2024 Fork it will have the X2 damper and I have no experience of that.

They are 2022 model spec acording to the Fox Website but I’ll have a play with pressure and volume spacers and I’m sure I’ll get them feeling good 👍

The cheapest 38 they make. I have the Rythm and removed all spacers, and this is a sweet set up. My buddy has the factory fork with the Kashima coating, and he swears mine is smoother. Now with that said, mine is plug n play, but a little secret, 38s like low air pressure. Set up is critical, and the base models like mine are simple. The higher end models take more tweaking to get everything dialed in.

I have that Fox 38 rhythm fork. The air spring is good the damper is not. I put in a MRP lift damper its a huge improvement better than the grip 2 as well and easy to service myself. Has 200 hours before it needs a service Fox is 125 hours between services. Changing the shims in a grip 2 is a pain. If you get a 2022 grip 2 change the shim stack to a 2024 shim stack that improves it.
