I want to buy a new fork for the bike -

Reasons arent important so dont bring that into this.

I've been trying to choose between the Pike ultimate or the Lyrik ultimate or even the Zeb,

But now the Domain RC has raised its head and i am at a loss.

The Zeb is pricey, the Lyrik and pike i can both get for 600, but the domain RC is in the region of £450. A good saving over the others. Only thing is its a bit heavier that the others, not massively, but still heavier.

Domain is a 38mm, the others except the Zeb are 35mm so stiffer. Reviews are mix and match. Some praise it, other slate it. Who to listen to there 🤔 .

Im not really offroading, but i dont do cheap tat.

Anyone any experience of the Domain ?. care to share. Thoughts, feelings etc.

what size wheel?
chainreaction has the Zeb on offer: RockShox ZEB Select Charger RC Forks | Chain Reaction
and quite a lot on offer in general: Forks | Chain Reaction
29" option here for £500 - dead easy to change travel if you need to: RockShox ZEB Charger R E-MTB Boost Forks | Chain Reaction
I think 180mm is a bit much for a 150mm rear. Could be ok, but i think sticking to 160 or 150 would be a better set up.
Yeah, 29er
i Don’t waste my time on the low end forks.
Good for you, and thanks for posting.

Starting point needs to be what do you want from a fork, then choose one that fits the riding you intend to put it through.

I did yes.

Ok first off it was a 27.5" and im a 29", but as i hadnt said that, #I'll forgive you. but as to the 180mm version, this involves a strip down which i didnt want to get into, which would have been obvious from the fact i'd said i was sending a fork off to be serviced. , plus buying an RS top cap tool and a new air shaft. Total there ?, just over 50 quid. So we have the extra 50 for the fork, plus the extra 50 for the -parts, and a strip down im not experienced in doing, which is a bit off putting.

So were up to 630
I did mention cheaper was better, but not sure you read that part.

So spend an extra 30 quid, have a no longer required 180mm shaft, a tool ill likely never use again and be forced into a diy strip down i wouldnt take on willingly.

Anyway, back to the question. What do you think of the Domain ?.
No im only kidding, i dont want your opinion of it.
Not sure why you'd need a stiff 38 fork if you don't really ride off road?
Is there another RS Domain thats 35,36 or 34mm stanchion ?. No obviously not. Its down to price. So for the 450 or less i have to get the 38mm. I mean ffs, why do you think i added " Reasons arent important so dont bring that into this. "

Talk about personal opinion claptrap on what or why i want to buy what i want to buy. Im not asking anyones permission, just their opinion on a 'f' fork.

Did someone need an early night ?

In dobby's defence, he did ask you that question in his post and he took the time out and provided you options for both not knowing the answer.

If you'd taken the time to look as you said you did, it had 27.5 and 29 .

So people try to help you out, it is a forum - a place for ideas and discussion and despite him taking his time out, you're sarcastic back about even considering his advice ?

Back to the domain - if you search the forum it comes up various times with fairly conclusive feelings.

You don't tell us what bike you ride or what you want from the fork but focus on price & say you don't ride off road. People point this out to you & your response is to throw your toys out of your pram like a stroppy toddler.

I'm sure the good people here will be tripping over themselves to help you now! 🤪

I would settle for nothing less than a DVO ONYX SC fork. I am not sure if they come in purple tho.

If you want a stiff fork and you're not too concerned about weight, grab the domain. I'm pretty certain the damper will be fine for simple trail riding and the build quality is meant to be solid. They're a fork designed to be punished, but on a budget. You'll probably snag a good deal if you look around.

Youre splitting hairs Dobby. Theres cheap forks like suntour, RS 30 TK, Sektor, the domain is a mid range, with some good reviews. I dont do the cheap forks because over the last 30 years of cycling i've long learned the lesson that cheap is a false economy.
Well... if I had a bike like this...
Thats a very rare bike. thanks for pointing it out. Original Verlucci built Rudy Project, from the time before they became famous for their eyewear.
Took me a while to get it built back to all original. Finding 1990's XT, period tyres and all the rest was no easy task. Im happy that I managed to stick with it as a project
Heres a list of my other projects completed since about 2009 Perhaps you could comment on each of those too.
1991 Muddy Fox Adventurer,1991 Claud Butler Ventoux 400 ,1992 Raleigh Diablo ,1992 Rudy Project, 1995 Cannondale M200 ,1997 Santa Cruz Tazmon ,1997 Specialized Stumpjumper ,1997 Specialized Rockhopper ,1997 Marin Quake 9.0,1998 Marin Pallisade trail ,1998 Raleigh Torus,1999 Orange Clockwork ,2003 Cove Stiffee FR ,2005 Kona Hahanna ,2007 On-One Inbred ,2007 Kona Kikapu deluxe ,2010 Orange Pure7 ,200? Omega DNA 6al/4v Ti Interbike prototype.
All of course are built up as their original spec, many parts nos. It wasnt a cheap hobby by any stretch

Why constrain your choice to RS forks only?

If you've a brand new factory fox 36 grip 2 for 450-550 ill have it. Theres no constraint per se. I see more high end RS on special offer than fox.

If anyone is interested, this is a good source for forks. It's Wiggles clearing house for forks and stuff and bargains there certainly are.
Most are new or new other, come off of display bikes or from demos, Im stuck with an XL so i need a 260mm steerer. Lost out on a couple of factory fox's.
It seems to come around in waves. Currently they've a lot of 180mm or 27.5" forks, but if you keep checking in something suitable will present itself.

Very nice. Is it a family heirloom, or recent purchase ?.
Ex-UK team rider's frame from '95 bought at the end of that year from BikeTech and built up with parts left over from my Proflex 856 upgrade.

I keep reading this thread .. everyone's helpful replies and the starting statements and it still doesn't make sense to me ..

I've been trying to choose between the Pike ultimate or the Lyrik ultimate or even the Zeb,

All great options to soak up the rough stuff when you're going for it.

But then ......

Im not really offroading

So why this ???

Domain is a 38mm, the others except the Zeb are 35mm so stiffer.

Logically, wouldn't something like a revelation fit with your "requirements" - cheap, not unnecessarily heavy, looks a bit like a domain - but wasn't on your consideration list.

The only thing I can conclude is that you need something strong which isn't going to bend when you're mowing down pedestrians ?

I think we need to call in an expert on these matters. I think the most prolific urban destroyer is @shockwave, followed closely by @Neeko DeVinchi . Gentlemen who think that Mountain biking is riding de-restricted as fast as possible through pedestrian areas expecting people to dive out of the way, children to learn how to fly, prams to have automatic evasion systems - followed swiftly with some red light running and a good bit more fun pavement mayhem before heading off to cause chaos and disbelief on the canal towpaths as families play the new game of 50kph "Death or Drown".
