They just redid the water bars so there pretty steep, it’s down hill but there is no landing. There about 6 of them you get 6-8 ft but the second to last one is a sneaker.
You carry a lot of forward momentum so it’s def a hard hit but now one that makes you chit yourself.
The landing marks where not the furthest by any means. None of the other bikes broke there Shock.
I did sheer the lower alum shock bolt on my Fantic couple weeks ago on same hit.

Coming from being. A motorcycle rider and racing fan I'm shocked how Ohlins are not holding them selfs in good light in the MTB world . In motorcycle world they're top dog !

Do you have any pic of him hucking it and breaking it? Sounds painful!

Seems like an Ohlins rather than a specialised issue - in my head it always seems to me that a shock placed vertically is going to be stonier than one placed horizontally, but then again I am no engineer.

The question is, how many hard hits and cases and other things happened before? The material could have been weakened/cracked before it finally broke on the last jump.
Bike only 5 weeks old it hasn’t been ridden easy but the owner never broke a shock on his other bikes and he over 45yrs old. And takes impeccable care of his bikes. But he does ride well and hard

Major safety issue worthy of a recall or a massive lawsuit if severe injury results.

Of course, these things wouldn't happen if people kept their maximum speed below 9.63 kph!

Something was not right in the set up of the shock, guessing the the spring tension or spring retainer was improperly set allowing a misalignment with no load on the spring so that when the hit impact occurred the slight misalignment caused the mess in the picture.

Just guessing.

Geez.. that's not good. Though, it's not often I am hucking to flat from 10ft!

The rear suspension is fairly linear + coil, and you can feel bottom outs on bigger hits. But that looks like something went very wrong

Spring rate is good, 5mm preload to set at 30% sag.
The problem is the side load leverage from the rear suspension geometry at bottom. The shock has to pivot in the bushing at. Full compression.
With the load of the bump stop and pivoting shock shaft takes a serous side load and the shaft is rather small.

That happened to ‘13 demo 8’s with cane creek dbl barrel coil shocks(Öhlins designed). The shock shaft was later bumped up a couple mm’s To accommodate sideloads. They just rebuilt mine with the original shaft and I didn’t have another problem. Hopefully that’s an anomaly. Mine was covered under warrantee

Ohlins warrantied the shock no problem but spec wont warranty the big dent and gash in frame. Said it’s not broken so bike looks like crap

I sent my bike none spec off mammoth water fall landed so hard bent both pedals and stripped threads in crank arms, bent motor shaft and messed up tq sensor.
But my suspension just fine. I would expect suspension on any high end bike to take a hard enough hit to bend pedals without any suspension damage!!

I installed a cane creek valt spring on my kenevo with ohlins shock and even though there is sufficient clearance between the spring and shock body the spring has been rubbing on the shock body under compression.

It poses a few questions is the shock flexing under load or is the spring flexing (laterally)?
Does the kenevo suspension design place the shock under undue pressure?
Is the ohlins shock simply not strong enough for ebike application? The overall weight of the kenevo and rider combined is pushing the limits of a lot of “normal” MTB parts.

Thoughts?

The Kenevo even has 180mm, but it is what it is - a category 4 bike.
Doing cat5 jumps with it and complain if something breaks is like ignoring a red light and complain if you get hit by a car.

The other bikes didn't break yet, which is good. But if they are cat 4 as well, i wouldn't count on it for too long.
