All joking aside, my old flat mate and I years ago replaced our front door bell with a ferry foghorn as a prank to callers. Would highly recommend fitting one of these as a deterrent.

I'm wondering if there is a commonality between the thefts (other than there are thieving scumbags that live amongst us) that we may be able to understand which may help in the future. Or may not but its worth a try.

Single bolt garage doors/shed (i.e. lack of secure entry/exit) or easily broken windows?
Logging of Strava rides including the start/finish being close to where the bike is kept?
Similar routes ridden or similar days (such as commuting)?
People seen hanging around?
Location of where people live - cities/towns/villages/hamlets etc?
Chatting with people whilst out on the trails where the conversation mentions the roundabout location where people live?

Afternoon all - UK/Edinburgh based emtber here. I'm one of those people who lurks around the forum and reads and gains info but has never been active/posted until now!

Sadly it is to report that my Turbo Levo Comp (black - L) was stolen from my garage in south Edinburgh on Tuesday night. It is totally black with no decals and has a distinctive (fugly) mudguard on the back for winter duty although that might be removed. Eddy Current 2.8 tyres, Easton carbon bars and Thomson stem are probably still fitted.

If you spot one of these out and about in the Pentlands/Glentress or plodding round town please shout or (if you want to) phone Police Scotland incident 0577 6/1/21.

They made off with my motorbike and carbon fatbike but tbh it is the levo I'm most upset about! Fingers crossed the insurers are as good as their word and I'll be back on the trails soon.

When I am I'll be sure to post and keen to hook up with any Edinburgh based EMTB people.

Sorry to hear this Bud, i had a couple of bikes stolen from my shed at the start of the first lockdown, one was later advertised for sale in Gorebridge, i phoned, mailed, tweeted and generally harrassed the police to do something and get the bike back, they didnt even visit him as far as i know and i couldnt get the bastard to ......let me see it with a view to .......buying it (ebay) ebay also didnt give two flying F**** as long as they were getting their cut from a brand newly set up account
get yourself out for a walk around the mtb localities around gorebriddge mate, you never know !

and lastly as one responder says, i got the unsurance money for my first two which i then added to to buy the ebike and my insurance cover doesnt cover e bikes either ! it now lives in the house which is a pain but needs must

This generally sums it up from what I have heard in general from people that have had bikes stolen

The police do very little even nothing in some cases and insurance companies do there best to get out of anything

My bikes are now protect buy ground Anchors and wall anchors numerous chains CCTV camera and an alarm for the house it’s cost me a small fortune and sure enough it won’t stop a thief with a disc cutter but all you can do it make it as hard as possible for them to take

Had my Kenevo nicked from my garage in April 2019. Assumption was I was followed home from a Cycle area in the Forest of Dean as no other way they would have known I had the bike. It was nicked the following night. Police were good, but nothing recovered. Insurance company paid out including for the locks they cut through. I left it 6 months before I got a new one as didn't want them coming looking for a brand new insurance replacement. I now have a Levo Turbo Comp (and I have changed address). Never leave it on display anywhere and never post anything visible on Strava that I have done on it. Bought even more expensive locks and don't keep the charger with the bike (so at least they would have to buy a charger!). Had this one over a year and love it.....

I decided to design and make a fixed bike lock with 3 different locking systems. locking bar through the wheels, you can chain through the frame and U lock through the wheel and rear triangle. I have single and double designed and prototypes made. Would e-bike owners buy these? Single £250 Double £395?

Another big problem abs constant worry is like me if your renting over the course of a year so many different people enter your property for inspection and servicing etc

Very easy for these unknown people to then tell others what they have seen at various different jobs

Why did he design the whole thing around securing the frame/ rear wheel /rear triangle?
With just two Allen keys and in less than 5 minutes an experienced bike thief could still leave with 2 entire front ends, (wheels, fork, brakes, bars/stems etc. ) and the dropper posts/saddles.

It's always going to be a compromise ? More faffing about .. Where do you draw the line ? Ideally, an armoured container with custom locks and additional welded lock guards.

Yes these thefts must be from following bikers home,sale sites etc it’s happening far too often to be random.

Did a few rebuilds last year for insurance pay outs where the theif had stripped all the front end components off.. My point was more why pay £250 - £400 for what is essentially a groundlock that still leaves the whole front end easily strippable.

Damn - too much of this going on to be a coincidence. Police were round again at the weekend - have managed to dig up more cctv from further down the road. Caught them coming up the road at 0249 and down again at 0316 - reckon they were in the garage 15 mins tops. Our bedroom windows were open and didn't hear a thing.

Have now installed a lot of security - stable door, horse etc I know but they'll not get me so easily next time.

If anyone has a link they can send me to the wee GPS thing I'd be keen to check that out for next time.

I was thinking the same thing - very big though - the vertical one looks interesting but as the door opening is 700mm and the depth is only 1100mm I doubt my bike would fit (don't have it to hand to measure unfortunately.....)
