First emtb purchase, help - is a new 2022 rail 7 future proof?

I’ve looked into quite a few bikes now focus jam2, trek rail, Levo etc and came to conclusion of a Trek Rail 7, but with this only running an older purion, and the frame hasn’t really changed much over the years is it the case it’s a safe bet meaning it’s tried and tested or are they likely to change it for 2023.

I see a lot of new bikes are going shimano motor and battery and was half tempted by the nuke proof megawatt, but do like the look of the rail and have a trek store really close

any help fire away!

I would be looking at a Bosch powered bike, I have not heard much good things about Shimano. The Bosch dealer support network is really large in the UK not sure about anywhere else.

I’ve just bought a Rail 7 , had 2021 hard tail Cube was nice but ended up wanting a full suspension so got a 2021 Specialized Levo Turbo and hated the motor compared to the Bosch so sold it and got the Rail 7 and love it .
i rode a Munro today and both me and my son commented saying how well the Trek did and glad we didn’t have the Specialized.

Thanks for the info, I just need to convince myself that the Rail 7 is the bike for me especially over the budget 5, the front fork didn't feel great on my test ride

You should know by now that there is no such thing as 'future proof' in the bike industry, just buy the one you like!!

I have a a rail 9 with the newer kiox display. Tbh I don't take much notice of it. The bosch motor with 625 battery is perfect and gives me great fun. The display is just for convenience I feel. I feel any trek rail would not disapoint and if so a few upgrades in the future wouldn't cost the earth if unhappy.

Future doesn't always mean better. I've owned/ridden bosch, shimano and specialized (sl and brose motors). The bosch has, by far, been the most reliable for me. It feels more natural and has excellent power. I've heard their customer support is excellent, but haven't had to use it so cannot confirm. I currently own two 2021 trek rail 9.8's. One with 3,050 miles, and the other with 1,600 mi. No issues with either one. I put 4,300 mi. one my bosch fitted moustach race carbon 9. Again, no issues when sold. Proof is the best advice I can give. Good luck on your choice.

I struggled with your dilemma myself.... I ended up going with the Rail 5 over the 7
I felt the only major difference between the two is the front fork.... And I wanted a ZEB fork anyway
So I bought the 5 and a ZEB and still paid less than I would have for a 7..... Had it for 4 months now & Loving It!!
