Hi all.
The mods I've done to this wee beastie since I got it at the end of October have more-or-less got rid of the pedal strike problem I was having (before you "change your riding style" folk start, I do have a little experience of rock gardens over the last 30 years with little trouble, I ride light). However as an extra precaution I was wondering if anyone has fitted a different rear shock to lift the arse end a bit more? The standard trunnion Fox DPX2 performance seems fine for me but with sag set where I want it at around 35-40% it rides a bit lower than I would like, ultimately. I've squeezed a second volume spacer in there (same depth as standard one, whatever that was) to delay bottom-out (I think, I hope!). Standard shock is 205/65. Which dimension, eye-to-eye or travel, would I need to change with a new one? And I'd rather not go to a coil. It doesn't have to be a trunnion type, I can do mods/make hardware if required. OR could I jack this one up a few mil with a DIY gizmo? Quite a few people seem to be lifting the Trek Rail by shock swapping but I haven't seen much similar stuff on here. Any thoughts most welcome. Hey there Teriatric, have you thought of going down the crank arm length road. You say that the shocks performance is fine so why go to the extra expense of a shock replacement when for a fraction of the cost you can replace the stocky crank arms with some shorter ones.
Santa bought me some 160mm ones and they are great, don't even notice that they are actually 10mm shorter after the first ride and so far no pedal strikes. Just my 2 cents worth.

Yes indeed, that was one of my mods too, I fitted Miranda 155mm cranks. But because I like so much sag I would still prefer to jack it up a bit. I lifted the forks 15mm with a homemade adaptor between the head tube and crown and also stuck in a TF Tuned 170mm air shaft. Fork stanchions actually measure 178mm fully extended, somehow. Front is well up without load, and so is the BB but just wondered if I could get more height easily. Thanks for responding.

Oh ok I understand now, especially with the front jacked up like you've got, need to balance the bike out a bit more and hey, get those pedals way off the ground. Keep us all informed as to how you get on.
