Energypak 500/625 Wh issue

Hi, I got 3 inoperative Giant Energypak batteries. In all of them, 2 LEDs charge indicators are lighting.
But when I plug the charger nothings happen (no matter if battery is in bike or not), and LED in charging is lighting red, when it should be flashing green.

I checked the voltage on batteries pins and from left:
battery 1 500 Wh
pin 1: -
pin 2: 1,5v
pin 3: 0v
pin 4: 0v
pin 5: 35v
pin 6: 0v
When I plug this battery to bike everything looks ok, I can connect bike with application, "checking system" show that battery is ok and motor works. But when I plug charger to bike it turn off, and after that it won't turn on.
It "restarting" when i swap the battery to working one.

battery 2 625 Wh
pin 1: -
pin 2: 1,5v
pin 3: 0v
pin 4: 0v
pin 5: 35v
pin 6: 0v
With this battery in the bike when I try turn bike on, controller flash LEDs ones and nothings happen. When I try second time nothings happen. Same as before this restarts after swapping battery.

pin 4: 2.5v
pin 5: 35v
pin 6: 0v
With this battery in the bike, totally nothing happen.

The only thing I found on forum is that, when voltage is seen on pin 5, battery is in "ride mode" and that's why it won't charge.
But I couldn't find any info about what caused this issue and if there is any solution.
Any ideas? Maybe someone meet similar problem.

I bought them without any guarantee on OLX(Polish eBay) with hope that at least one will be usable.
Price was very bargain, so even if I won't fix them its not big deal. And of course knowledge is priceless :D
While digging in the internet I found info that there was some problems with firmware in this batteries. Tomorrow I will talk to local giant service, maybe they will help.

I was told by a dealer that if there is an issue with a charger I locks itself out to prevent damage and can only be unlocked by Giant, may explain why your second charger works. This happened to my brother on a 625 and the dealer replaced battery and charger because it locked out both.

I talked to the local giant but they didn't help.
They say that it's a common problem and replace battery instead of fixing them.
But I found that when I connect together pin 5&6 (from left) and connect them to 41.8v from charger, batteries are charging normally :) So I'm sure that they not completely dead.
Maybe I will open one battery to check if there is some fuse or something like that on power line.

Maybe I will open one battery to check if there is some fuse or something like that on power line.

All tree batteries looks quite new, one of them have only 2 charging cycles, so I'm 99% sure that cells are in good condition and all problems are caused by BMS. But GIANT has made every effort to make EnergyPak unrepairable.

So definitely Giant is not eco and customer friendly :)

I have issues that I can`t charge my 625 (on bike and also directly, just red light on charger) - as also on pin5 I have 35.9V. Acu is also like new, few charging cycles done - checked via app.
But bike is starting normally (almost, as sometimes it does not start, then I need to swap batteries, for long trip there is a risk that after some break it will not start...). To charge acu I tried to use external (not giant) charger with only two pins (+-) and acu is charging without issues.
I wonder if this is some hardware issues or firmware related

Why do you write pins 5-6 on the left? Are you shorting +charge and +discharge (they are on the right), or am I wrong and you are shorting -main bus and -can bus?

Did you connect pins 5 and 6 (+charging and + supply together?)

Additional BMS for charging, could be a potential solution to make these batteries useable 🧐

Why do you write pins 5-6 on the left? Are you shorting +charge and +discharge (they are on the right), or am I wrong and you are shorting -main bus and -can bus?
I'm start counting from left :) Now I know that all pins are signed (- 1 2 3 4 +) but I want to name them consequently in this thread.
Backing to Your question, yes I'm shorting "red 2" from the picture.

@Nobrks this walkaround works also for charging. Probably some mosfet is damaged and not switching correctly between modes. Additional BMS, only for charging could be a good idea but there is no space for anything additional. EnergyPak 625 is 10s5p, so I think the only way is to decrease number off cells.

No, before shorting pins batteries works as I describe on the beginning. After that everything look normal.
I would assume charging is then happening without BMS, so no ballancing between cells packs, and no high temp cut out ?

Fully charged Energypak 500, when I press the button 5 LEDs light up, when I press twice only 2 LEDs blink, what could this mean?

Is it safe to charge with a non-original 5A charger? Is the charging current too high for the Energypak 500?
How can 5A of charging current damage the battery, the battery charges very quickly 18-100% in 3 hours, the batteries do not heat up. My previous charger was 1.5A which charged 10% per hour.

Batteries 'pull' power from chargers, chargers do not 'push' power into batteries.

Only your bike manufacturer can confirm whether the non-original charger is safe to be used with your batteries.

Yes, you can use a different charger. The BMS has a maximum current limit built in. Use the large 2 pins coloured red + and black - the 3 small pins are Canbus signalling for the 60% storage feature that few people ever use.
