eMTB or not eMTB

Been trying this out on a couple of trips then comparing it to using just tour and boost or whatever it’s called. I seem to be using more battery using the eMTB which I found a bit odd. Can’t say that I particularly liked the eMTB but maybe I just have to get used to it or perhaps it’s me being lazy.:sleep:

Anyone care to comment on how they got on with it?

I only just discovered it and found it jumps in usage a lot, but that’s to be expected given what it does.

I tend to use Tour or Eco unless I’m on a big hill then I hit Turbo. I don’t use eMTB. I’ve heard it’s much better after the update.

I guess we are talking about the Bosch CX motor EMTB-mode here.

I don't understand why you try to emulate the EMTB mode by changing between Tour and Turbo. I think dynamic powercurve is THE thing in EMTB mode. Are you trying to save battery or isn't the current battery capacity enough for your trips? What is actually the problem that you have?

I find the EMTB mode so good that quite seldom there's a need to change it. Sometimes on road I try how bad it feels to ride in ECO mode but that's all. The latest firmware upgrade gives more power when climbing uphill and it feels good.

I don’t use EMTB mode. I can never tell if I’m getting the right level of assist. Eco is useless. I primarily stay in Trail and occasionally in Turbo.

I don't understand why you try to emulate the EMTB mode by changing between Tour and Turbo. No I'm NOT trying in any way to emulate eMTB. My comment was that on the same route in the same conditions using only Tour & Turbo ( with a very small use of Eco) I used less battery than using eMTB for most if not all of the trip! I also found eMTB somewhat lacking in grunt. think dynamic powercurve is THE thing in EMTB mode. Are you trying to save battery or isn't the current battery capacity enough for your trips? No & No. What is actually the problem that you have? See above.

Been playing about with modes on my rail 7 the last few rides aswell. I always just left it Emtb but found it a bit sporadic in power delivery some times, I started using Tour most of the time and find it just right. I stick in Emtb for steeper climbs though. Tour mode definitely improves range, I have covered 25 miles on my current charge and still for 3 bars left. I reckon I’ll get 50 miles easy.

I wish eMTB was between Eco and Tour and not Tour and Turbo. With that said, i rarely use it. I us Eco the majority of the time unless it is a climb, they I might use Tour. The only time I use Turbo is when I am on the road trying to get somewhere.

Your last sentence suggests you are associating Turbo mode with speed which in any case would become ineffective after 25km/hr so I'm not sure what you mean. I use Turbo on steep gnarly uphill sections. I thought the issue was torque not speed. But I only started mountain biking last year so I could be wrong.

I’ve just mentioned this in the gen 4 update thread, but I really believe Bosch need to give us the users the choice between modes, I was perfectly happy with SPORT mode, as climbing uphill in EMTB takes more effort than SPORT, and slipping it into turbo uses to much battery. I can’t see why we can’t have SPORT AND EMTB, why is their a sacrifice?

What is Sport? Mine has ECO, TOUR, EMTB and TURBO. As I progress in that order the effort gets less although EMTB does seem to be more variable e.g. more AUTO than the others. I don't have any issues with those modes, it seems perfectly reasonable.

SPORT is a mode on some e bikes, which comes in place of EMTB mode, it’s basically the maximum power the EMBT mode has, but doesn’t require high pressure pedalling to reach full power.
I don’t mind EMTB but I don’t see why it has to come in place of a perfectly good SPORT mode.

Sport and EMTB aren’t the same
, generally Sport is found on more of the base models , Hardtail and older models.
There’s lots of info on the Bosch website.

As long as you pedalling and enjoying your own bike I guess none of this really matters.

I’m getting my upgrade on Tuesday, for no other reason than it’s free and I’m intrigued ??

The Bosch website states:

In the case of the Performance Line CX, eMTB mode can replace Sport mode. It can be activated/ deactivated by the bicycle manufacturer and the specialist dealer.

However it seems that for this new update, ONLY EMTB mode can be activated. That’s the news I’m getting from dealers, can someone confirm/deny this? I want the new update for the added torque, however I don’t want EMTB mode, I’m happy with SPORT mode.

dealers please help?!

Correct, it is torque. I just use it to get up the last long hill before my house. The only time I used it on a traul was to hit a short little rise that really wasn't meant to be ridden, I just wanted to see of I could. Too much power, to me, is like ribs that are over cooked and just fall off the bone...I still like to have some fight. ;)

Crikey. I was at Bedgebury on Saturday morning, thrashing the Whyte in Turbo. Did 26 miles and I had one bar left! Could have gone for a 4th lap and still been out before 11 but the range anxiety was strong.

Just back from Pitmedden forest, did 12 miles mostly on tour with some Emtb thrown in, mix of gradient but a fair bit of climbing. Still 3 bars left, although range says 12. But that’s nonsense, loads more life in it yet.
