Just bought a new Giant Fathom E+2. I have never bothered to insure any of my previous bikes, however the bike has a very bright colour scheme and will stand out against other bikes in a storage rack so I’m going to insure this one. Any recommendations on a good company please?

Really really good and I have had to use it. Just make sure you take a couple of pictures with how your bike is stored incase it does get stolen. They will ask for that if worst happens. It is quite expensive but again I would highly recommend them.

After the claim I expected a new policy to be doubled but it was the same which is great.

Also the reason I chose them is due to them covering the bike in an out building. Its not there anymore.

If you have contents insurance, talk to the insurer. They will have a standard £300 policy for a bike, but may have optional upgrades. Check what it covers, as it may only cover the bike if stolen from your home or damaged on site. But that may be OK as your car insurance should cover it whilst in transit. If you want the whole of its life covered for accidental damage, theft, third party cover and "new for old", etc, then you will need a specialist bike policy.

Thanks for the tip, I’ve just rung my house insurance (Lloyds) and they have added it on. Theft and accident damage for an incredible £4 a month !

Previously my house insurance was with John Lewis and their standard bike cover (per bike was something like £1000 and apparently there was no limit on the individual number of bikes of this level each), you could also add additional "Named" bikes with any value for a relatively small additional premium, they asked for the make and a replacement value for each.

My insurance is now with Aviva and their policy basically asks for the value of the "most expensive" bike to be covered and they just cover all bikes up to the value of the most expensive.

Thankfully I haven't however had to claim from either of them!
