Eco support %?

Quick question ... had a quick go this afternoon on my new stance e and was gobsmacked how quick it pulls in eco! Checked my app and it says eco is 50% support ... should i turn that down for eco?? Reason i ask is im gonna try riding alot in eco mode as im a seasoned biker so quite fit ... what % do you all have eco in?

Depends on what you're trying to achieve, but by decreasing assistance the battery life will be extended and you will have to put in more effort yourself. But in my opinion if taken to the extreme why have an e-bike? I have a Kenevo which has tuneable support between 0-100%. Default setting for eco was 35% but I've increased it to 40%. I've also set Trail to be 60% and Turbo to be 100%. All with peak power set to 100% so that it should be possible to get 100% assistance in all modes by pressing more on the pedals. See attached doc for details - NOTE: Battery Firmware version should show as X.17.X to make use of this feature. First number is the battery capacity and the last one is is the iteration of the current firmware version. Most important is the middle one since it's the newest firmware so it should be 17. ALSO NOTE: that battery firmware X.23 is called X.17 in the app (app: decimal notation, firmware program: hexadecimal notation)

Hence my query as your eco is set at 35% whereas my factory setting is 50%... so id be getting more support alltho id imagine it differs for all bikes... i will try it first on a proper ride and tune it from there if i have to

It's all up to you : depends on your fitness and what you want to achieve. My eco is on 15-20% and trail on 40%

What model and year bike have you got and what version of Mission Control are you using?

2019 giant stance e+2... yamaha sport motor with giant ride control buttons only paired to my iphone... silly me tho ive been reading more and i see it has 350% of support so eco at 50% is relatively low in the scheme of things just surprised how easy eco felt.. god help me with turbo

Note that different motors give different percentages of maximum assist, and also if you are quoting a percentage it's important to distinguish between a percentage of maximum or a percentage of rider power as they can be quite different It's very easy to get confused!

E.g. Shimano maximum assist is supposedly 300% of rider input, and eco is 60% of rider input, which is 20% of the maximum assistance. But then the Shimano eco mode can't be adjusted either!

Yes ive just twigged lol its all confusing tbh...good thing is mine can be adjusted if needed... i will know more tomorrow on a good ride

Only you know what works for you, so just tune it for what feels right. Certainly though if 50% is default for Eco that would negatively affect range vs other systems.

But im taking it as 50% of a maximum 350% which is ok ? As said earlier its confusing lol

Actually, with freeMax software (which is free, i.e. no cost) you can change the ECO mode assistance level as you wish. And not just the percentage, but also the maximum torque it gives (as well as other modes, too, of course). Total freedom.

The maximum assistance % the power train is capable of delivering is irrelevant. It’s the power in Watts you actually pull that is critical, and if you have a battery of the same capacity and you draw more power from it your range will be less. I will post a more detailed explanation with the maths in a separate thread when I get the chance.

I thought this as well when I did my test ride.

Actually, with freeMax software (which is free, i.e. no cost) you can change the ECO mode assistance level as you wish. And not just the percentage, but also the maximum torque it gives (as well as other modes, too, of course). Total freedom.

Good to know, any place I can get info on freeMax?, I googled it and only found a link to an old version for E8000 motors and no info on it.

- eMax: chainwheel and sprocket size adjustments, tire circumference settings, Di2 enabling.

eMax and miniMax share the same licence (pay once per bike). All these are PC-software, so you need a laptop and SM-PCE1 or SM-PCE02 box from Shimano, too.

I understand Giant and Specialised % assist figure are completely different. IMHO Giant works like this.

Eco 50% means Rider puts in 100, motor adds 50.
Power 360% means Rider puts in 100, motor adds 360.

Of course up to a max of motor power.
