Ebike field vs rise toolbox

I have tried toolbox app for my garmin edge but it’s annoying that you can’t choose the tiles on a screen. It seems you have to have the five tiles the app gives you. All interesting info but lacks a clock, which is a pretty basic and useful function. One can show the clock on the Shimano display but it reverts back to speed after a while so this is no good either. I’m used to using Jan Capek’s ebike field data field with my Specialized and I can choose the tiles I want including one which shows battery charge and power mode. However, I don’t seem to be able to connect my Rise to the ebike field. As I’ve paid for premium it should just find the Rise and add it to the two bikes but nothing happens. I tried disabling the Rise toolbox but I still can’t get the ebike field to link up with my Rise. Any ideas?

I use Jan’s EBike field on my Garmin paired with the Rise, had no issues with it

When I was first setting it up, I found that I had to turn the Garmin on first, set it as though you are about to record a ride in E-MountainBike mode, and then turn the Rise on. Also, when first pairing the bike and the Garmin, have the Garmin as close to the little black LED controller as possible, as that’s where the Bluetooth signal comes from

When you manage the app in Garmin Connect, can you see that it has paired with the Rise and assigned it a pairing code ?

Hi, thanks for reply. When I check in connect, the rise does not show. It hasn’t paired - that’s the problem. I don’t have a black LED
Controller - I have the display. I’ll try putting garmin close to that. Do I need to delete Rise toolbox from the edge? Is there a conflict between the two data fields? I would like to switch between the two on different screens on my edge.

I read somewhere that you can’t have RS Toolbox and another app (can’t remember the name) paired at the same time, so yes it’s probably one or the other. I don’t have RS toolbox, as I use a Garmin Edge 130+, and RS Toolbox is not available for that device, so just used Jan’s app and it’s been working great

Thanks. What you read makes sense. It’s a shame one can’t change the default on the display (it always defaults to speed which is in the toolbox anyway so it’s an unnecessary duplication).

Obvious question, but have you enabled pairing mode on the Rise ? On my little black LED display you have to hold the button for about 2 seconds until the LED starts flashing

In my manual (for Rise H30), it says pairing will happen automatically - there is nothing to say how to put it into pairing mode with the display. Jan’s notes with ebike app say pairing should take place automatically so I’m baffled

Jan’s app should pair automatically, but I had to pair the Rise with the Shimano E-tube & E-Ride apps by pressing and holding the button on the controller

if you’ve already successfully installed RS Toolbox then you obviously have an active Bluetooth signal so maybe the display on the H models is slightly different. Mine’s an M
