E 8000 crank removal

Hi

Do you need a pre load tool to remove the cranks or can you just tap them off.

I'm fitting a new motor and already have the TL-fc39 chainring tool already.

No you dont need a special tool, you have to remove the crank bolt, then loosen the two bolts that hold the crank on, then pull it off. When refitting, slide the cranks back on, install the crank bolt to get them positioned correctly, then tighten. up the bolts on the cranks themselves.

Its worth while swapping the crank bolts out for some alloy ones though as the stock plastic ones aren't great.

Loosen the two pinch bolts first - these are what retain the crank, not the plastic screw, they also cause the threads of the crank to squeeze down on the plastic screw. Once loosen, wriggle the crank a little and you can use your fingers on the knurling of the plastic "pre-load" screw to loosen it and wind it out by hand. Worst case use the end of a flat blade screw driver on the internal star pattern of the plastic screw to grab a tiny bit of leverage and then use your fingers for the rest.
