Well I've had fun trying to get the steel ring out so I can replace the bearings!
Just put the tool in the vice, slot the wheel onto it and turn anticlockwise is the internet method.
Not an F ING chance of me getting enough purchase on the wheel too undo it.
So I resorted to plan B and got the proper equipment out 😁
All done now, but I thought it might be easier to just fit a new hub🤔

The dork ring as mentioned is very dirty and everything surrounding it is too. why didn't you clean everything on wheel/tyre before you started job?(n)
There's no point doing a job like that where bearings are involved if a bit of grit/dirt can get in as you put it back together.

Bearings are sealed on both sides and it's not loose dirt it's four years of grime that's ingrained in.
Thanks for your concern though. You'd have thought after 35 year's in the motor trade I would have learned how to change a couple of wheel bearings 🤔

I try to break my santa cruz reserve wheel every few years to get a warranty replacement rather than have to do this. 😬

I'm doing a clutch on my daughter's s**tbox 20 year old Toyota Yaris next weekend & I reckon it won't be that dirty! Gotta love mountain bikes.

A very good suspension tech once told me 90% of his work was cleaning. I believe him.

Don't know why people would get out of shape over dirty MTB's, they're supposed to be blasted through the dirt. You do see bikes in here that look like garage queens that have never seen a trail, I wonder about those.

I totally agree with suspension. When I service my forks they end up being mega clean 👍
