Hi

I bought my whyte e180 new this near, only in may. I've only done 80 miles on it so for.

Is the bosch motor waranty of 2 years only valid if its serviced each year for example?

Thanks

My lbs won't touch it until after the warranty period is up as I assume any opening of the motor invalidates the warranty with Bosch....

No...........a LBS service does not do anything to the motor. As above it is a sealed unit. There is no such thing as a motor service except if you take it to a repair centre after the warranty has expired.

This, The only "motor service" are third party services that would void the warranty. (like sending your motor off to the bearingman to have the internal bearings replaced, but not something to worry about unless your motor starts making grinding noises outside of warranty)

Bosch don't do any service to the motors, they are just meant to last.

There is a service you can do yourself at home to try and keep the motors moisture barrier in perfect condition.

But it's not something that happens when you take your bike in for a service, and most people probably never do it.

Imagine buying a car and the shop states “if you service it you void the warranty” , are we being scammed ?

Taking the motor apart is not servicing it, it's repairing it. Even the official Specialized dealers are not allowed to break the seals on the motors during warranty replacement work, or they won't get paid. They have to be sent back to the factory, as they are, with intact security seals. The factory then strips them to diagnose the faults, and design updated components.
All MTB motors are non serviceable during the warranty period, then you can do what you like. Re. cars, of course you are allowed to service them, ie fluids, filters brakes and tyres etc, but if you stripped down the engine, the warranty would be void. No scam.
