DIY battery upgrade with 18650 cells

Did anyone succeed in upgrading the 500Wh battery to a 625Wh (or higher) version with the use of 18650 cells? I believe the 18650 cells from the 500Wh version are around 2300Mah each. Nowadays 3400mAh 18650's are widely available (beware of Chinese batteries). That would mean a range increase of 48%. Will the BMS board take the higher mAh's?

I ride a Trance E+2 Pro with 500Wh battery.

On Giant website it is written that 500Wh Energypak are made of 40 cells type 18650. Those cells must be 3400mAh because if we do the calculation : 3.6V x 3400mAh x 40 = 489Wh. To get the 625Wh battery Giant added 10 cells to its energypak (3.6V x 3400mAh x 50 = 612Wh). I read somewhere that to add those cells they simply removed some shield from the case and that also explain why the 625Wh battery is lighter than the 500Wh.

Didn't check the Giant website. Only 40 cells. Bummer.
Some other brands do have 50 cells as standard so I supposed the Giants had the same amount in them. I hoped it was as easy as changing and soldering some new batteries, done.
If cutting/breaking is involved I 'll pass for now.

IMHO that will be veeeeery difficult or immpossible. BMS for 99% will shut down after unplug batteries. I red many topics and saw movies on YT and integrated batteries are very complex and not easy to do antyhing inside. But my fingers are crossed 4U guys...
