Levo Gen 2 Discrepancy on speed and km recording Garmin - Levo

Hi,
I am using an Garmin Edge 530 on my Levo 2020, I had the Levo Speed sensor connected to my Garmin, but the Garmin was showing an incorret speed, as well as recording more mileage than I drove.

It seems there is an issue with the sensor and Garmin.

Has anyone the same issues ? Does anyone know if this is an issue where Specialized is aware of ?

I am running on the Garmin and on the Levo (motor, batterie and TCU) the latest firmware.

As a workaround I have disconnected the speed sensor of the Levo and getting the speed and mileage from GPS, but this is a bit slow sometimes.

I loved useing the already existing sensors of the Levo and hope to be able to do this in the future again.

Thanks, Manfred

I also have found out that automatic wheel circumference detection in Garmin can be totally off sometimes because I think it automatically measures it every start of the activity and if you have bad a GPS signal reception you can end up with wrong recorded distance ... My solution was to manually enter wheel circumference in Garmin, to do this of course you will have to measure it first ...

Thanks for your information.

Did the manual wheel circumference you entered fix the issue ?

I tried the same thing, but it was still showing the wrong speed and mileage.

I was using the speed sensor of my 2018 Levo up to 5.xxx firmware and it was working very good. With the update of the latest firmware(7.xxx) on my Levo 2018 it started and now on my new 2020 Levo I also experience this issue as discribed above.

Yes, I thought I made this clear in my first reply. I guess you have a problem somewhere else then, maybe your Levo gives out inconsistent signal from speed sensor ... I have similar problem with speed signal with my original motor, during the ride speed has dropped to 0 for 2-3 seconds every now and then (pausing activity when I had autopause enabled), I would say at least 10-20 times per 40km ride. Then my original motor failed and now with new motor I don't get this speed drops anymore.

How far out is it? I had a problem with a Wahoo Bolt, and did some tests which I documented here.

I *think* the issue is fixed now that everything lines up, but I have noticed some discrepancy still. I need more data before I can make a call whether the issue is fixed or not. At first I thought it was, then after one ride I noticed it was out by a little, then the next ride it was good again.

Just yesterday I switched my garmin from "auto" on wheel size, to manual and put in the correct size. I haven't had a chance to ride the bike and see if it fixes it, but I'm sure it will. It was quite a bit off. The auto setting doesn't work.

I have the 830, I wasn't aware there was a setting for wheel circumference, I just assumed it takes its speed from gps, my Garmin reads less than my bosch kiox but to be honest I have always thought the gps speed to be more accurate than the bike. That and the fact for me the miniscule difference in mph between the two is sort of irrelevant for my rides.

You can simply check if it uses GPS or bike speed sensor by lifting your rear wheel up and spin it while not moving with the bike. If it shows speed its clearly uses speed sensor and wheel circumference data. This way even if you have a restricted bike you can show actual speed on your Garmin device.
The auto setting does work well as long as you start your activity on area with good GPS reception, I use to have it on auto for several years without issues, but I was always starting from home where we have very open area, without any tall and dense trees and about 5kms to first hills in any direction. Just once I started activity in woods surrounded with high hills and I ended up ride with 65km recorded distance while it was actually around 52km. After I set up manual wheel circumference I never noticed such anomaly.
