Hi guys
If when I am setting up the index for the derailer and the limits for the derailer to go to the highest gear and it’s not going past what would be gear 3 is that a tension issue or something else I am missing ?

slightly concerned I have pulled the tension cable too much haha.
They are sram nx

thanks :)

Probably your limit screws

Brilliant video link thanks Steve .

in the Video he releases the cable and cycles through the gears , when I do that the cable goes past the point where I could screw it down .

Any suggestion on what I have done wrong here ?
Thanks

I set the inner and outer limits without the chain. I line up the upper jockey with the gears on the cassette, standing behind the bike. To make sure that I've got the setting correct, I press the whole derailleur to the right or the left depending upon which limit screw I'm checking.

Only then do I add the chain. Doing it without the chain is not wholly necessary, but it does make it easier, which is why I do it on first set up or when I just cannot get good shifting by the usual methods. Once the limit screws are set, you should not need to change them for a long time.

Upon occasions, I have very closely observed the chain as it passes over the smallest gear (the later the largest gear). I watch for any slight kicking one way or the other and listen for any odd noises. If I see or hear anything untoward, I move the screw very slightly in or out until I see or hear an improvement. But I only ever found that necessary on a 12-speed set up where everything has to be spot on. But the principle works for lower speeds if you are seeking perfection.

Awesome thanks for that Steve I think I have got it nearly back to running. Highest gear is still a little bit of a nuisance but I have run out of time today. A job for Monday it would seem. haha

Thanks again Steve ????
