Hi All, can anyone recommend a reasonable 10 speed cassette as the 11 x 42 direct replacement shimano ones seem to be unavailable everywhere I have looked. Also how do I know if they are E-bike compatible or is that not an issue? Thanks

Hi Everyone, first post here, came across the forum after buying a E-ST 900 and saw the post on previous page about the badass 4 module, i contacted the manufacturer and they said it should work fine so took the chance and bought one, i've just fitted it today and i managed to hit 30mph on the flat no problem (using gps) but my legs were spinning so fast I couldnt really go much faster, I am an overweight 48 year hence the need for a E-Bike :) its totally transformed the bike for me so I have now ordered a 38T chainring to hopefully help out with that, but im so glad I took the chance with the badass unit as I tried the cheap magnet option which gave errors after about 200m, i did a 21 mile ride today with it on and all good!

You can mount till 42t, but I see 38t as the ideal too.
Tip: just cut the original chainring in 2. As its diameter is small, you will struggle to get it off, and never want to go back anyways.

Hi everyone who has taken interest in this post
It been quite a long journey so far
I've taken in all the knowledge up till now
But the one thing I notice keeps surfacing is the gear ratios
I came across this video I wonder if anyone else has seen this but the way I see it and the way he's talking it seems as though our shifter will work with the SLX 7100
See what you make of it

I have the 40t crank and the 11-50 cassette and I have the Shimano slx7100 winging it's way to me I think this could the solution to any gear configuration
As the guy says this changer seems to work with 8-12 Shimano shifters

The Derailleur that comes with the bike will not is only good for a 43t short
Even with an extended hanger it will not give enough clear for a 50t
So therefore using a long cage slx 7100 12 speed which is capable of shifting to a 51t
This solves the problem and you don't need an extension hanger
The guy in the vid says most shimano shifters shift between gears with one pull or push
Did you look at the vid by the way

Hi again as I've purchased a complete new drive train for the bike I'm going to use the wax / Teflon method for lubricating the chain
The benefits are you get a better Friction resistance, don't have to replace components so often and easier to clean the components and refresh the process every two to three hundred miles
Sounds good to me
Have a look at a right up on it see what you think or maybe you've been down this route already

Wish i'd read your part about the diameter being small and struggle to get it off well your right i couldnt so rather than cutting it i decided to put it back on and forget about it for a while, what a mistake, id threaded one of the little bolts and it wouldnt tighten up ended up making such a mess of it that I almost gave up. Didnt have a hacksaw so ended up getting a grinder on it and well after a lot of cursing i now have the 38t installed just been out for a quick ride around the block and it seems much better. I think i might make a profile between eco and tour as its obviously going to eat the battery a lot quicker being derestricted

I'll be totally honest and i'm never likely to go off roading, i use mine mainly on the roads and gravel trails so probably could have got away with a hybrid rather than mb, but choices were limited and i liked the look of the E-ST 900. I've changed the tyres to continental double fighter iii, a more forgiving gel saddle and usual accessories to mount phone, go pro and water bottle, then last week got the Badass Box 4 but found the gearing too low hence coming across this forum and replaced the chainring to 38t, i'm going to ride to the office tomorrow weather permitting, its a 14-5 mile trip each way so hope the battery lasts (might stick charger in my rucksack just to be sure) I had a 520 briefly before the 900 as i was told they would be out of stock of the 900 for months then literally 2 weeks later they were back in so managed to swap them.

Evening, hope you don’t mind the post, not had a bike for years so it’s like goes over my head.
my father is 66 years old, Coleman by trade all his life, he has his heart on a bike so I have been researching for his 2k budget, he is 5ft 6 at the most, would you recommend the small on this bike.
Can sit adjust while ridding or do you manually have to adjust, sorry if these questions sounds silly, again all new to me, thank you for your time and any help is so much appreciated
thank you

I think ‘small’ would be ideal. I’m 6’’1” and whilst I love my ‘large’ one. (Ooh err missus!) A ‘medium’ would have been the ideal!

I would definitely go with the small
I have a medium but reckon a small would have been better, I'm 5'

I would definitely recommend going for the small
I'm 5' 9" and I feel the medium I have is slightly to big
I know the difference doesn't seem much in the spec but trying a smaller in the shop it is
Hope this helps

With Decathlon I ordered a 520 online because they were out of stock with the 900
Then believe it the following week the 900 came back into stock
So I just went on there website to the return section saying I would like to return the 520
Which they say take it to you local shop where they issue with a refund there and then
Then I purchased the 900
No problem if you get the size wrong
If you find the small size to small just send it back

The thing is what do you want to achieve with a bike, thing is with the 900 is it's reflecting good value for money, when it first come on the market people were wondering how they were able to sell it with such a spec for the money
And there you are is it nearly 2 years on and still selling very well
And you can use it for most riding disciplines
Stepping up your spending money to 2.5k you start to enter the very bottom end of the full suspension , but not much to talk about
Anyway it's your decision, as a starter bike I can only say I've got on very well with the 900

Good man I don't think you've a bad decision
When it arrives and you look at it for the first time you'll be saying how could they sell this sort of quality at the price
As I've said if it's the wrong size send it back and if need be get a larger size if you've ordered the small(y)
