Given the propensity for filling every void with tools and spares these days, Muc-Off have been working on a new solution to data tagging your bike. An intriguing solution, which can apparently only be mounted in the rear wheel, though I don't know why, certainly keeps it hidden! It only works with the Apple Air Tag, though there is an Android app for it (I believe), but wouldn't it be great to go to the police and tell them not just that your bike has been stolen, but show them where they can find it! Love the (excuse me!) out-of-the-box thinking here (not supported or endorsed by MO in any way!). Supposed to be available mid next month. The big downside, for me, is that it is not tyre insert compatible :(

Here's an even easier and much cheaper way than surrounding it in tubeless sealant and reduced faffing around adding more stuff to wheels:

Find a void in your ebike frame (they're massive, usually abundant in space to hide things), wrap up your AirTag in bubble wrap

all yours for about 50p.

Now I understand the blingy tag holder for the water bottle mount. It' a sacrificial decoy so that the thieves think they've got the tag already!
I've just been mailed by Muc-Off about this new AirTag holder for your bike. I'm sure it's pretty and well made, but I'd have thought that that was the last thing you want to make blingy:

Have to be honest, neither of them are solutions I'll be employing, much more likely to go with Rob's recommendation!

This Muc-off value stem looks interesting and might be worth a try. I currently buried an AirTag in the frame (carbon) and I’m still able to get a proper signal when I’m at higher elevations. A second AirTag might give me some more peace of mind, especially if the battery dies. I tried the water bottle mount but it doesn’t fit with a bottle on a medium Rail. Another one I seen looks like a reflector that’s attached to the seat.

If this isn’t an April Fools gag from Muc Off, then I’d worry about AirTag/rim/valve damage if I had a flat.

Someone I know sprayed their Air Tag black and stuck it under the saddle right above the seatpost - you really struggle to see it. Seemed like a good solution.

Does an apple AirTag still update the location once it’s away from your phone?
Yup. They just need to be near to anybody's iPhone. They hijacked every iPhone user's device without their permission for this functionality. Great for finding your tag, but a bloody cheek (imho!)

That sounds like a good idea, but I’m wondering if the AirTag will still work if it is inside an aluminum or carbon tube?

Mistaking a Mento’s Mint for an AirTag is kinda funny but could be an inexpensive alternative. Finding a mint candy hidden somewhere on the bike could be an “ah-ha” moment for a thief. I don’t know the consequences of accidentally swallowing an AirTag but it could be possible if you’re not careful. Anyone have experience with Mento’s/AirTag confusion? 😅
