Cyclist in hilly terrain but not a mountain biker per se

Hello All, full disclosure - having tried cycling down a mountain I found it something for younger riders.

I am going on an ebike journey after renting them during holidays and I am looking at the electrics primarily, as I'm an electrical engineer by trade (RF, PCB design mostly).
