I keep the cramps away by guzzling a Gatorade on the way to the trail head. If it is really hot I drink another one post ride on the way home.

I've had my ebike about 4 months and it seems for the last month or so every time I ride I will wake up in the middle of the following night with horrible let cramps. It seems like I would have less cramping after an ebike ride but that's not the case. I wondered if the fact that I'm spinning more has anything to do with it? Also, it's been very hot so that may have an effect. I do try to ingest some sort of recovery drink after, and even before my rides, but I'm not sure that makes any difference at all! Any insight or miracle cures are appreciates. Bananas, pickle juice and mustard do not need to be mentioned, as none of them have ever seemed to work for me. I still eat bananas, though, and mustard, when called for.

Me Too! I use a sports drink called Propel, sugar free, probably sweetened with some fake sugar compound, but if I drink several of them it staves off the cramping really well.

Thanks, but I do use the sports drinks. I've been taking Magnesium Oxide tablets all week and they seem to be helping. I went on a big ride yesterday and only had some slight cramping twinges last night.

I am prone to hamstring cramps and if I feel one coming on I put a pinch of salt under my tongue and drink water, usually followed by a lot of swearing and dancing about! This was recommended by a sports doctor.
On long rides I make my own sport drink in a 12 oz. bottle. 1/2 a Lemon juice, pinch of salt, water and some Crystal light powder for flavor. It’s basically what Gatorade is but without all the unnecessary sugar. I just sip it between drinks from my water bladder.

I’m not an advocate for supplements. Nothing can replace nutrition from a balanced diet that’s unprocessed and contaminant-free. There are so many formulations available that the best choices are often the simplest and therefore safest.

For cramps, a bio-available ie easily absorbed formulation is essential. In Australia, there’s a practitioner range called Bioceuticals with various formulations of their Ultra Musleze ® and P5P is the one specifically for muscular aches, pains, cramps and spasms. No doubt there are similar formulations widely available.

What is very interesting & enlightening is the diversity of magnesium’s influence across the spectrum of human health. From the flyer:

If you research any vitamin or mineral you'll get similar results. After saying that I was impressed with what magnesium helps to maintain.
