Can I remove the cover with the water drain hole in it or is it a big job. I can see the dirt in it apart from poking a few cotton buds in i would like to get cover off if possible. Also any bright ideas as the mud going in from underneath maybe mesh or something

You can take the left side motor cover easily.
The crankarm has a self extracting crank bolt. Remove it with an 8mm socket and ratchet. Then remove the 4x3mm Allen screws holding the cover on.

It's the other bit I want off the bottom with hole in it where all the mud is at.

The right cover side you can only remove after removal of the motor!

„Removing the iserts also allows taking off the cover...“
