Comp or Pro 29

I've decided I'm going to purchase a YT Decoy for my first EMTB but am undecided between the comp and the 29 Pro. I haven't done any trail or enduro riding before but my price budget puts me with these two bikes. I live in the mountains in Austria so worry I will loose range quicker on the comp with all the climbs and it being a heavier bike.

Based on the suspension upgrade alone, the 29 Pro would be a solid choice over the comp. It really just depends on your budget. If you can afford it, I would go for it.

I would go PRO .. reasoning (4 main reasons .. in order)

1. Much better suspension front and back (Fox 36 vs Yari)
2. Wheelset (DT Swiss 1700 vs 1900) .. 1700 is higher quality and lighter
3. Brakes (Code RSC vs R ... not huge but nice)
4. Tires - Maxxis 3C compound vs dual compound

If you can afford the extra $$$$ ... its definitely worth it (IMO)

I think the comp is a good bike too but maybe not as suited to climbs, this was my main question, is the pro 29 €600 better in climbing

I don't think you will notice the climbing ability of one over the other. It will be in how the bike handles. So to add to my points above …….

First consideration : A lighter wheelset will allow for every so slightly more precision in your steering and handling. Its actually quite noticeable if you go from a bike with a heavy wheelset to a lighter wheelset.

Second consideration: A 3 C tire grips better than a dual compound .. BUT wears faster.

For the most part I am sure they will both climb equally, however will handle differently due to the decrease in rotational mass from the 1700 wheelset.

Essentially pick what is important for you in terms of specifications and decide.

Well the big difference is that the comp is designed more as an enduro pig whereas the Pro 29 is more all mountain. components aside you need to decide if you want the more gravity oriented ride or a more all around ride. I have the mullet and it's a descending BEAST and climbs well enough for me to keep going. the geo is completely different between the 2 so decide on riding style first. then go with the Pro version of either one if you got the pocket book.

Yes wheels and tires will make a difference but the Comp is the MULLET and the Pro 29 is all 29er so regardless of components they will handle very differently due to the fundamental differences between the 2.

Agree 100% … your either a mullet man or not .

Tires OFF the ground are generally mullet men ... tires ON the ground are generally 29'er guys.
**A very general statement, but I find it to be fairly accurate.

I am a mullet man as I love "sending it" and hate "climbing it" If there is a chairlift or a pick up truck nearby ... I am on it. My excercise is at the gym and not on the trail. (now I could have also said in the bedroom, but then I would be lying - LOL)
