Clicking sound from motor - when pedalling and coasting

Hi,

I have a 2020 Cube Stereo 140mm with a Bosch Performance CX motor with around 800km on it.

Today when riding a flat trail on tour mode the engine suddenly started clicking. The clicking noise definitely comes from the motor - it happens when I'm pedalling but also when I'm coasting. Happens also when the motor is turned off or when I pedal above 25km/h.

What is very weird is that the sound comes from the motor even when just the rear wheel is turning. No battery, no Kiox - every revolution there is a sound coming from the motor - the higher the speed of the wheel, the louder the noise.

I've checked and there is nothing blocking the wheel and the sound is not coming from the rear hub.

Attached is a video showing the problem.

Here is another video showing, the the sound is definitely coming from the motor - when I take the camera away from the motor the sound gets noticeably lower.

Since the sound appears to happen about once per wheel revolution, I'd suspect the magnet is hitting something. Although that is not at the motor, it's not at the hub either.

It can't be the motor as the chain isn't turning, so the motor isn't turning. If the motor isn't turning then it can't make a sound which relates to each revolution of the wheel. Unless it's via induction, and there's nothing there to induce.

It sounds like you have a tubeless fat ball in the tyre which is hitting with each revolution ? Or a loose spoke. Or as @Voluptua says, something catching the magnet.

I changed a tyre yesterday and found a tubeless fat ball , thought it was some alien spawn . Never seen one before ☺️
Agree with above, is the tyre warped and rubbing?

that noise is metal on metal and the cadence is the same as wheel revolution....so something on the wheel is hitting the frame or something attached to the frame. Magnet hitting the sensor is the most likely cause. It is definitely nothing to do with the motor.
