I've got a nice scratch on the glass of my SC-E8000 glass this week end! :(

The screen is still working perfectly but I am concerned about humidity could come inside and damage the display.
Do you know if it's possible to change the glass only? Can't fond any info on internet, and I don't want to buy the whole display just for a scratch, it's expensive and not ecological!
Thanks for your help!

I will check mine, the screen popped off mine when I hit it with knee and destroyed the ribbon cable for lcd screen. So I got a new 7000 unit to replace
I still have broken e8000 unit so can check, screen itself not scratched

I just had a look, I wasn’t able to prise the LCD assembly away from outer screen cover. I didn’t want to break it, seems to be glued in place.
Keeping it as a spare incase my wife’s e8000 screen ever damaged

When I asked shimano about getting spare parts they said no , it’s all one unit. I needed a new circuit board... and sent me this showing parts available

Thanks so much for the reply!
I saw your post with your broken display and hoped it could be a solution. Unfortunately, as expected, changing glass only does not seem possible... What a shame!
I'll try to contact a Shimano service center, just in case they can find a solution. Otherwise I'll keep using mine with the scratch and hoping that humidity will not come inside.
Thanks for you help

One option might be to use a polycarbonate (I'm guessing that's what the screen is made of) friendly glue (e.g. Loctite 495) to fill the small hole, and after it is completely dry, follow the various techniques out there describing how to remove scratches from polycarbonate (typically rubbing compound and polishing compound). It won't be perfect, but it might be enough to seal it and improve the appearance.

Thanks for the idea. I will maybe give it a try, but I am a bit concerned about doing something worst...
And Shimano confirms that they don't sell case/glass only... for impermeability guarantee! :cautious:

I scratched the hell out of mine in one inverted surfing episode. If I'd had more time before I sold the bike I'd have done as suggested by @RickBullotta. Each time I cleaned it and used a bit of polish it took the edges of the scratches a tiny bit and looked a little better. Never had any watr ingress issues. Maybe do some searching on headlight scratches too, or if you know anyone who works for autoglass, their glass resin would probably do the trick.
