So my chain guide on my whyte just died, somehow bent the thing.

So going to replace but does it have to be an ebike specific one?

No, as long as it fits and does the job you can use anything you like.

Do you have picture of it? Did you bend the bracket? Chain guides often come in three pieces and for instance mrp makes the one they put on my Giant from the factory. It has the correct spacing on the bracket to bolt right up correctly to my bike. There may be others that do the same but, I suspect some are slotted to accommodate different spacing. I would recommend using one that is not slotted. Don't confuse that with being able to adjust for different chainring sizes like 36 or 38

why do you need one?? Neither my E 180RS nor my E160 RSX has one and I have never had a chain come off the chainwheel. If the chainwheel is narrow/wide and the mech clutch is working properly there s hould be no need.

you can run a brand new narrow/wide new xtr with perfect clutch and still have a chain pop off. I've done it

As sad as it sounds but because it came with the bike.

one tip that might help................when descending on steep gnarly ground dont stay on the smallest cassette cog.
