Can't I install a KIOX on my Orbea Wild M10?

Hello friends,

My local dealer told me (after ordering the bike and confirming that everything was good) that installing the KIOX 500 display on my Orbea Wild M10 is not straightforward because it requires running an additional cable from the motor to the display, which he hadn’t accounted for. They also mentioned that they couldn't offer the retrofit.

Is this right? I see that Orbea actually offers the KIOX display on their website, so I’m wondering if the dealer just can't or doesn't know how to do it.

What is the current display or controller on the Orbea? (Nyon, Purion, Kiox).

Did your lbs say additional cable or compatible cable? An additional cable is not needed.

Also, there may be a few mounting options available for the Kiox display. (Stem, bar or top tube). The controller is usually mounted on the left side of the bar and requires a short cable to the Kiox display.

I have the original, or old , Kiox display and controller. Installing was easy but the motor needed to be dropped and the cable threaded through the frame. This may be what the LBS is trying to avoid.

As far as I know there is no additional cable. I now mount my Kiox display to the top tube where it’s protected from from a crash. The Kiox is magnetically held in place but a short tether is attached. I really recommend this method (ask how I know).

Its probably down to the cables for the Kiox having to go through the headset, assuming you want the display 'out front'.

The current cable attached to the System Controller mounted in the top tube is disconnected and will have to be re-routed through the headset and into one of the ports in the Kiox mount, a second short cable goes from the second port, through the headset and into the port on the System Controller.

Depending on the seal/surround under the stem, there may not be room for the additional cables.

The factory fit option will have been specced with a seal/surround to take this into consideration.
Although it may be available as a spare to achieve this on a non factory spec conversion

Hmmm 🤔. Interesting. You’ll have to post some pics to see what the solution is. I’m only somewhat experienced with Kiox installation but hopefully your situation is do-able. Maybe a Trek bike is easier?🤷‍♂️

Is this right?
According to the newest Orbea Wild blue paper this is not correct.

As mentioned by @MrPeaski the main motor cable is routed from the motor to the system controller. Orbea uses for the Wild with or without the Kiox 300 option identical 1,500 mm long cables. This will be long enough to reach the Kiox through the headset. An aftermarket Kiox 300 or 500 upgrade kit includes the additional 300 mm cable needed to connect the Kiox display to the system controller. You will have to route both cables through the headset. The one used by Orbea has enough space for additional cables.

See the relevant diagrams from the blue paper below. You can find the full version here: Dash

I bought the kiox and installed it myself the kit - is easy - whats a pain is that headset. I ended up pinching the wire a little and so got the shop to redo the headset and cabling when it was in for something else.
