There is a 4 mile stretch of beach in my zone that I can ride with no hands at low tide with a tail wind

How about sitting on the bars facing the saddle and peddle? Always been my one and only party trick. No idea why or how it came about. Got a unicycle too........ooh, maybe an e-uni? That could be fun.

Just to clear up any confusion regarding my earlier post about my levo leaning severely to the left when riding no hands, I finally figured it out. I have developed significant scoliosis caused by spine degenerative changes from a severe old lower back injury in the 70s. My pelvis no longer sits straight on the saddle but rotates 18° to the right, to the drive side. This throws off the balance, making the bike lean severely to the left when riding no hands. The fix was to re-dish my rear wheel 3 mm towards the drive side. Now the bike is perfectly balanced when riding no hands. Also improved the bike handling at high speed downhill on tight trails. Made me realize I had been compensating for the imbalance earlier without realizing it. For the rare person with significant scoliosis you might check this out as it might significantly improve your bike handling properties.

Wow! I could have written exactly the same thing myself. How bizarre. I’ve always assumed that was my reason but just rode around it. Never thought of re building the wheel. I had it corrected when I was 20 but there is still an imbalance.

So what do you think? What is the relationship between being able to ride no handed and being able to manual / wheelie?

My sense of balance is pretty pony and my biggest fear when trying to practice manuals is landing with the front wheel way off to the side and me flying forwards onto my face. Looping out backwards and is far less worrisome for me as I ride flats.
