As we have done to our 2022 Rail 5's (wife and me), you can retrofit the non-Smart Kiox to your Rail 5 but not the Kiox 300 which I think is "Smart" only. We got our LBS to fit them for us.

Rail (625Wh) - Kiox retro fit top tube mount

I have a Rail 5 on order from Trek Bristol and I have also just received a retrofit kit. Trek Bristol kindly offered to fit the kit before I collect. I’ve noticed there is a Rail specific top tube mount, would I need a controller with a longer wire to use this mount? I spotted in another thread...

did this on my '22 Rail5, think the purion is easier to use but kiox has more info & phone connectivity

you can 'thread' the wire through BUT it's fiddly and depending on who origonally assembled the frame it could be a tangle of wires between the headstock and battery lock

think you'll need to drop the motor anyway

I’ve retrofitted 2 of 3 of the kiox’s to replace the Purion. IMO it’s a nice upgrade.
I had my LBS install the first one. They gave me a modest guess-estimate. When I picked up the bike, the next day, they informed me that they had no idea on the extent of the install. We settled on a reasonable price for the installation. I installed the other two.

I basically followed the same path as the Purion wiring. Motor had to be dropped, battery removed, fork removed, bulkheads removed or loosened. It was more work than I expected.

Mounting options for the Kiox is another consideration. (Bar, stem or top-tube). I eventually mounted the Kiox to the top tube on my Rail. I did not and will not permanently fix the Kiox into the magnetic holder. However, I used a short tether to prevent loss when a crash occurs.

The Kiox controller is loosely fixed to my bar (it’s able to spin when a crash occurs).

Besides all the cool stuff that a Kiox display has, I had them installed for personal reasons. My vision. With a quick glance at the Kiox display I can now see what mode I’m in. EMTB mode is purple. The clock display is large. Walk mode is easy.

I’m use to the grammar police constantly knocking at my door, but $10,000 looks like $10 to me. I have a neurological blind spot, which prevents me from driving a vehicle. I now anticipate text but I can quickly identify colours. (Ie; eco, trail, eMTB or turbo). Riding my eMTB on these trails stretches my ability but I’m able to hide these disadvantages. Magnetic pedals have helped with the paralysis on my left side.

So basically I need all the help I can. No double black diamond trails for me.

Same, bought the Trek toptube mount and it fits using the knockblock mount screw.

We also have short tethers, forgot to mention them.

At the time the LBS had to order the small triangle shaped adapter, which has two indent holes to accept the new Kiox holder. (Knock-block fitable).

Instead I carefully drilled two small holes to align the holder …and I mean carefully! That was the LBS’s idea…and it worked.

I removed the knockblock insert triangle thing and bodge-bolted the carrier in place (with the existing bolt & 2 washers iirc)

been there a while now & suvived my wombling around bpw

Good question. I didn’t have to for this install. It only made the bike lighter while working on it. (Ie( flipping the bike while removing the motor). At the time I was also considering running the wiring through the stem and bar. Forget that idea.…almost impossible.
