Broke my chain, broke a tooth off an idler gear!

Well, less than 60km into life with my new Trance E+ 2, and I broke the chain! Given the amount of power that is going through a bicycle drive train, I'm not all that surprised really. Unfortunately when I went to fix the chain, I noticed that the upper idler gear on the rear mech had sustained damage somehow and there were teeth missing. No spares of the gear by itself are available apparently, so no choice but to replace the rear derailleur entirely and because it was breakage rather than failure, I had to pay for it :( I did get the part at wholesale cost, and installation at no charge, but still, that stung a little!

Yes, you didn't need to buy a new derailleur..... Whoever suggested you needed to buy a new one was a bit, em, cheeky. Unless it was fecked.

Chances are something was caught between the derailleur and the jockey wheel and unfortunately snapped your chain etc.

The power of an e bike should never snap a chain btw.

Maybe the derailleur got bent too ?
Because the jockey wheels are surely available . A spare derailleur hanger is nice to have in your tool kit too .

Hope and Superstar make replacements for SRAM jockey wheels. Bearings are much better quality and better shielded than the originals. Pretty sure they, and similar companies do Shimano ones.
