OK, maybe that's a bit click bait :) but I was following the theme of @MrMarzocchi post

I've always thought my kenevo motor is a bit tight/inefficient/incorrect. I've ridden Bosch bikes before, but never for a whole ride to see what's actually going on.

But basically, you have it sooooo easy !!! What an amazing motor.

It still chomps through the power if you're riding hard on steep ups, but if you do anything a bit more sedate it's almost a perpetual motion machine.

Just did a ride where strava crashed a few times unfortunately when I took pictures ?!? something to do with my phone I guess, so it missed some distance/elevation but it was still impressive :

After about 3km's and the horrible purion (sponsored by time warp Nokia) had re-calibrated itself in Eco to none steep terrain.

3km.jpg

After 10km's, predicted range kept increasing.

10km.jpg

After 25km's (where my Kenevo was flat last time I did the same ride and had to ride back empty) range was still increasing and no bars used.

25km.jpg

After 35km's .... STILL INCREASING !!

30km.jpg

After about 45/50km's, finally dropped a bar with 106km's still predicted.

50km.jpg

Actual ride was a bit longer and more elevation, but you get the idea.

WOW ! Love it.

I cant believe just how lazy I am. E-connect shows my average output at 210W which is normal for me. This is a typical jaunt using less than 40% battery on a 625wh. I’ve not tried other motors but it seems okay to me.

Er, @Zimmerframe, you took a photo of your Nokia sponsored Purion display whilst riding downhill at 50kph (30mph), which involves taking your phone out of your pocket, turning it on, finding the camera, all whilst wearing sky blue Fox gloves that match your trainers. Skills
I wasn't concerned. The manual clearly says it's an ASSISTED VELO ! so like a tesla with auto pilot. I just presume it uses lidar, radar, camera's and a bit of luck to steer the bike for you ??? I was trying to make a pot noodle at the same time ..

are you sure you had it switched on?
I think I was over the assist for quite a lot of the ride, but compared to "my" (not to be compared to other brose motors) it was like riding a 1 kg's bike with lance armstrong pushing you.

I don't know to be honest, it just felt so damned easy in ECO it was comical. Is ECO when it charges the battery ?

I’m impressed you have Pot Noodles in France, Nouilles en Pot ?

It's always difficult to work out what a ride is like on any e-bike. You can check callories or energy as a rough rough guide. With my Shimano I got about 50-55k max .. With the brose I had 50 once, but generally 25-35 and a minimum of 7. So much depends on speed, terrain, how you ride (I think I ride in a way which is theoretically efficient - high cadence) but the way I try to treat ups as downs is obscenely inefficient. The Brose will give higher peaks but a lot is subjective as to how people pedal, how and when they apply more power, how each motor tries to apply power or compensate for or for lack of power.

I consider myself to be at the lower end of ability, so I'm inefficient all round. E-bike motors work with assisting you, but the way it works a lot of the time is that it tricks you into giving more of yourself than you think you can (if you ride harder). The same works if you push someone on a normal bike. Only a slight touch and they'll accelerate and pedal like a mad person and say how easy it suddenly feels. You're like "but I'm doing a Bruce Lee 1 finger shove but with no effort" (you can also ride the assist on some motors and almost give nothing - so there is a flip side)

I think the Brose system with the Gen4 has just "balanced" this perfectly.

It's impressive.

How the hell did you manage that on 40%??? I'd be pushing my luck on 100% of the battery!

In all seriousness that really is just an average effort ride, nothing special. It’s quite hilly near me and I’m used to a climb or two. On the flat the motor will most probably be off, I just don’t need it as I can get above the motor cut out in any case. I guess it helps with some of it being on country lanes perhaps.

I will take pleasure that it’s not bad for a 58 year old body on a 25 year old head then ?

I only usually ride with Dane that has a bosch motor but he weighs 20 stone (127kg) + and he always gets a similar distance to me, 20-25 miles

Zero wind and dry/hard trails make a huge difference to range, as does the design of the bike. I have a Whyte E180 RS with Bosch gen4 and a Levo Comp with Brose. I find the Levo is a better all round package and a big part of that is the software control of the motor which is far more sophisticated than the Bosch motor. Obviously bike design comes into the equation and in my case the Bosch motor is powering a longer , slacker and heavier bike, which is what I chose to ride for gravity/more gnarly terrain.
My wife has a Cube Access ( hardtail) and the Bosch motor in that feels very different to mine. Range on that is far greater than either of y bikes and overall the bike feels far easier to make ground even in Tour mode. Both ECO and Tour on the Whyte feel hopelessly underpowered!!
As far as I can tell from a variety of rides in average conditions and using all modes as required, the Levo with 500w/h battery has a max range of c 30 miles. The Whyte with 625 w/h battery is less certain but I would guess 40 miles. My wifes Access with 500w/h battery is also c 40 miles...maybe more.

I generally ride with a mixture of motors and we all get similar ranges, proportionate to battery size, assuming we all ride at the same pace and effort. Last trip to BPW and I actually put in less effort than my mate on a SC Bullit and he ran out completely on the last climb after about 40KM and 1500m of climbing. I had 1 mile range predicted, so no more climbing, but enough to get me back to the car from the end of the trails.

Anyone who can do 24 miles and 4K ft on 40% has wasted their money because they clearly don't need an eeb... :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Curious @Mikerb , does it not get annoying each time you install and remove the battery on your E180 when not in use?
I only ask because that was the deciding factor between when I was considering the E180 and the Kenevo ?

I only remove the battery on both the E180 and Levo about once a year just to clean. Having the battery fully enclosed in the downtube is much better for a voiding water/dirt ingress. I understand that is an issue for those that need to remove the battery for charging but I do not have that issue.

Thats very close to a 100% of mt 540w battery with my e8000. Same average speed, 5 more miles and 800ft extra

Jeez @Pigin even your altitude to distance is crazy high !!! Do you just ride straight up and down ?

Hmm, something isn’t quite right…..

Theres too many of you politely smelling BS and you might be right. Every now and again my export to Strava has a funny turn and it seems this is another one of them. I record my jaunts using the Bosch e-connect app. I then export it to Strava as my lads use that and want to know what I have been up to and also Bosch still haven’t sorted the altitude recording. I also have a linked Bosch to Komoot account which I use for route planning.

I have a reasonable level of cycling efficiency but Im no super athlete, I’m just another “lazy Bosch” user ?

So here they are together. I think you will be pleased to know your sense of smell is fully functional.

@Zimmerframe Do you just ride straight up and down ?

It certainly feels like that, I get totally disorientated on the flat ?. It is quite hilly hereabouts hence why I love the eeb soooo much.

When I was a kid I would do a paper round on my bike and could never figure out why it always felt like it was uphill there and uphill back! ?.

Getting back to the thread though. Any bike/ motor that gets your backside off the sofa and in the fresh air ( even in liquid variety ) is a good thing and nobody in their right mind should call it being lazy or cheating ( Bosch/Strava altitude stats not included).
