Hey Team,

As a lot of you know I am looking at a Voima. I would love the option to put a smaller battery in the frame.

A) 80% of my rides would be within 50% of the 750wh battery capacity,
B) Reduce the weight of the bike for 80% of ride time. 500hw would reduce weight by 1.4kg. 625 wh would reduce weight by 700g minus the weigh of the adapter.
C) Expand battery rental options when hiring batteries for vacations that involve flights where you cannot take a battery on the plane.
D) Take advantage of sales of different sized batteries. Currently I could purchase a 500hw for $835nzd instead of the retail price of $1235nzd. An additional 750wh from Pole costs $1832 nzd.
E) If I have a second battery it makes perfect sense to have a smaller/lighter battery. Also on big bike park days I would use about 1200hw of battery capacity. So a 750+500 would cover a full day at the park without needing to charge.

I am a weight practical weight weenie. So if I can reduce weight and not reduce performance I'll do it!

I've found an adapter from 500 to 625 only. Has anyone seen an adapter to adapt 750 to 625 or 500w?

Would these adaptors be suitable for battery configurations which are integrated in frame. For example in my mondy Crafty xr ( smart system ) I have to drop the motor to get the battery out. I know with the new Orbea wild even though the battery there is integrated in frame you are freely able to swap between a 625 or 750 w battery but again obviously dropping the motor first to get to the battery.

My mondy is 22.4kg with the 750watt with the weight saving I’ve done on the bike already from factory spec. I would like to get down to the realms of 21-22kg.

For me a 25 mile loop on mixed fire trail , xc single track , downhill sections is only using on average 30% of the battery . That would also be my typical ride so the 750w is overkill for my needs. I didn’t have an option with mondraker to spec the bike with a smaller battery. I like the idea of maybe being able to step down to the 625 or even the 500w of that was at all possible.

My LBS did say they didn’t think it was possible due to the way the battery slots up into a connector in frame even though when I’ve looked it just seems like a standard Bosch rail system. They also said as I had the race motor specced on my bike it was unlikely the 500w would be able to deliver the amps or something along them lines.

If anyone has success downgrading from a 750 to a 625 on an integrated frame battery please post back.

Thx :)

Sounds like your bike shop is talking bullocks. In theory it should work. Buy an adapter and borrow a battery and find out.

I have a Cube stereo 140
Which has undergone abit of a lift ie. 170mm front 160mm rear 29er but have a 27.5 on the rear to slacken it
Must admit I put more money into component upgrades than what the bike cost
But let's be fair it's all good fun messing around

I'm also interested in such option. AFAIK there's no 500 -> 750 adapter for smart system. But found this on YT - a DYI adapter...

Hi Malc, I'm also wanting to fit a smaller battery to my cube 140. 750wh to a 500wh to save weight. what year is your Bosch system? Mine is the 2023 with rim magnet and wondering if the system will accept the battery change

⁰Mine is 2021 just before they introduced the 750w battery
I know they have the bracket adjustment inside the Battery compartment but I chose to put the plastic extender piece on the 500w battery to save messing about with tools
Thing is do they still have the adjustment in the battery compartment to adjust it to say 625 battery, if you can then stick one of those pastis adapters on the 500w battery

Yes the battery bracket has 3 different positions for the 500/625/750. I'm just concerned that the electronics may be fussy if I change to a 500wh. I want to double check before I part with the money

Bosch last week has announced a new range extender (250 Wh). It's also been confirmed you can run your bike on just the extender. And it's plugged in to your frame charging port. I don't think there's any doubt that 500 Wh battery will work both from SmartSystem compatibility pov as well as 'juice flow' (been reading some other posts where someone wondered if 500 Wh would be to weak to power Bosch CX motor). I'm planning to work on my own 'wood' adapter (just waiting for some long m3 screws from Aliexpress) and will get it going..

I see that Bosch also do the compactTube 400 but I can't see the battery unit for sale anywhere.

Looks a nice lightweight option @ 2kg

They're slimmer - not just shorter than 750/625/500 - different formfactor. Guess to adapt that one you'd have to go all 3D printing and stuff.

Well the only smart system battery size in nz is 750wh.
So until Bosch get there a into g and get some stock of smaller smart system batteries i'm out of luck to adapter to a smaller size.

"It's also been confirmed you can run your bike on just the extender". Are you 100% sure of That?
That would be a great news!
Do you have a link to prove that?

Removing the main battery and running only with the extender would save 2kg for the quick after work session..
That would be fantastic

That is amazing. I don't need to think anymore about trying to fit the 400Wh battery in my Strive.
250wh will be just enough for the after work session on the bike park near me. and only 1.7Kg

Agreed. Almost turns the Strive to an SL for hour long blasts!
