Bosch Gen 5 wiring and frame compatibility

Having just found out the Bosch Gen 5 motor has the same 2bolt mounting as the SX it got me wondering if it would be a straight physical swap in the frame on my SX powered bike and would the existing wiring plug straight in?
It would be a fantastic
upgrade without having to buy a FF bike if it works.I read that Whyte will be using it on their existing E Lyte frames turning an already great bike into something really special and I’d love to do it to my Phase Evo LE in future.

Welcome to the forums.
Cheers.

It was during a Kiox install on a friends bike that I discovered that the motor plugs were slightly different. I could see no reason for this. This prevented a simple motor swap between the model years. Also his upgrade to some AXS systems required different shape neoprene motor plugs.

It seems like manufacturers make slight changes to create marketing increases. I like the two-bolt-motor-mount for the new Bosch motors, but I’ll keep the old 6 bolt motor mount system and probably have the motor rebuilt a few times.

cheap upgrades or new bike sales? cant see the industry wanting consumers to cheap-out when they should buy a new whole bike (same as few makes sell frame-only options)

Rich.
I’m fortunate to be able to service 90% of the issues with my eMTB’s. The way I look at it is; I purchased a motor, a frame, and a battery. I’m stuck with those unless I buy a new bike.

Thankfully most other components are upgradable or swap-able. There is nothing, at this time, that would encourage me to purchase the latest and greatest eMTB …other than the Fuel EXE 8.(TQ motor).
I wish my upgrades were cheap.

And, I try to support my LBS(‘s).

Got to agree there that the manufacturers would deliberately make micro changes to render any new technology useless to being backwards compatible thereby meaning having to buy a new bike.
I can only hope there’s some electronics whizz kids out there that will maybe come up with modified wiring looms in the near future.
Could be a nice earner for someone and time for the bike industry to stop holding us to ransom.
