Bosch CX-R---what bikes?

I am kind of in the market for a bike. I would really like the CX Race motor, but I don't know what bike brands it is available on. Or if I can even find one at all. I live in the US, so any help would be appreciated.

The Bosch site has a search feature for bikes with type of component. Set to show bikes with the race motor you get nine bikes. I don’t know which of those are available in the US.

At that price point I’d go Orbea wild, or crestline. Trek batteries still rattle around and get loose.

From what I have seen in reviews of the race motor I would not restrict my choice of bike in order to get one. You can tune all modes in the Flow app on the standard CX motor to achieve similar results.

Crestline and Orbea are great bikes. But, for this kind of $$, I don't want to have it shipped to me. I would rather go to my dealer and pick it up. Just in case of problems I have their support.

Orbea can be found at lots of local shops. Crestline is SoCal based and has amazing customer support

I woud ping Crestline and ask about options of shipping direct to a local bike shop. Are you located near a Worldwide Cyclery? I had my 1st Crestline shipped to them and had a great experience! My 2nd Crestline I had shipped direct to me and was also a great experience. If I have any issues with the frame will contact Crestline direct. Any issues with the Bosch motor or battery I would take it to my local Bosch dealer.

Crestline does have shops setup as dealers, contact them and see if anyone in your area is a dealer.

I spoke to Joe at Wheel and Sprocket Tuesday expressing interest in the 9.9 CXR in black. He told me they had $200 off, making the bike $13,299 plus tax. Basically, zero discount in my eyes. I called Weds night and spoke to another associate about the deal and Joe was to call me the next day (yesterday). You'd think a guy with the opportunity to sell a $13k bike would return the message wouldn't you? Nothing. It's not like the store is lined up with morons willing to plunk down this much for a friggin bike. So, as of now, I'm putting it on hold. Trek makes such a great bike, but a little courtesy goes a long way with me. That being said...I have never been upset I didn't spend $14,000 in my life.

That's so crazy to spend that much on a Trek. I didn't get a Crestline because I went with a different option but definitely contact Crestline to see if anyone local in your area is a dealer. At the very least you'll save $1200.

Also, do you not have a good local shop that would at least service a bike if you bought something from a direct to consumer brand?

Trek makes a heck of a bike. I doubt anyone would argue that. All these bikes over $10k are overpriced IMHO. That Crestline bike is a REALLY great build. Not real hot on the copper/black color combo though. But, they're just too much of a local and boutique brand to take a risk $13,000 risk 1500 miles away. No dealer wants to fix a brand of bike they don't sell. They'll do it component wise if they feel like it...maybe, but they are under zero obligation to help in any manner to warranty anything. Dealers are not warranty shops for products or bikes they don't sell.

I work at a shop and we get them in all the time, IMHO there's nothing special about them. They're not a bad bike, but nothing that makes it an awesome bike. I guess that's why I would have a hard time justifying that much for one.

Other than just the frame itself, there's zero reason why a local shop shouldn't fix it for you. But I know some shops hate money and refuse to service bikes they don't sell. Which is crazy to me.

That would be a waiting game. 99% of shops won't just slap parts on a bike (a bike brand they didn't and do not sell) under warranty until they receive the part from the manuf. Then, they charge labor many times.

At the price point you're considering I would at least go to your local Orbea dealer and see what they would sell you a Wild M-Ltd for. It's a great bike and is highly reviewed and has won two ebike shootouts that I can think of.

We sell Orbea and I know that they are offering dealers bikes at a discounted price, so I would assume you'd be able to get a bit of a deal on one.

I’ve owned the new Trek Rail 9.8 with the standard CX Bosch and currently own a Crestline. Crestline all the way hands down. My Trek had crap paint that chipped if you looked at it. Plus many other quality control issues. The Crestline is far superior in every way. Plus it’s an absolute missile when you point it downhill.

I brought a Santa Cruz from the local bike shop because I wanted great local service. That shop gave me shit service, tried to charge retail + 20% for a new set of reserve wheels, and then decided to laugh when I questioned it. Consequently, when the motor failed, I took it to another local dealer, who warrantied it in a heartbeat (even after it had been rempped). I still brought another SC, but not via the local SC dealer, and my new local dealer still supports me with top service regardless of the brand I own. I also now have a Crestline and I still get top service from the second dealer.

The second dealer is smart enough to allow his customers their own choice , and provides top notch service, in return he's probably got more sales and margin from me out of tyres, parts, gear, etc than the first dealer did from the bike.

Build a relationship where dealer cares for you, and is smart enough to know $$$ are tied to service, not a brand
