I've got a couple of 2020 Focus EMTBs with Bosch Gen 4 motors - a Thron² and a Jam².

Both bikes came with a generic Focus service booklet giving the service intervals as 100km and then every 1000km thereafter.

Is this normal for Bosch motors? (If it is then I'm going to be seeing the service centre manager more often than my wife!).

On some of the displays a service icon will appear at some point. As I never saw it I'm going to assume it's around 1000 miles as none of my motors lasted that long...

No idea what they'll actually do in a service though.

Perhaps they replace the drive side components with that service kit below

Buried away on the Bosch website the service interval is stated:

A first inspection of the eBike by
a specialist dealer is recommended after
approx. 4 weeks or 300 kilometres.
Subsequently, the eBike should be subjected
to a comprehensive service check
at regular intervals.
I've sent them a contact mail asking them to define "regular intervals". Odd that Focus quote a 100km service interval - although this is probably for the bike shop to check all the bolts that the factory forgot to torque correctly.

These intervals seem rather short. I think I might as well put a rack on the back of the bike and pay a service engineer to have permanent residence there ? ?

That's what I was thinking.

My LBS were surprised as well. (I'm not sure they'd ever read the service booklet before - it's not in Spanish and I had to translate quite a lot of it for them). They're nice enough not to see dollar signs at such a golden opportunity.

I had the following, very illuminating reply from Bosch:

Hello Graham,
Thank you for contacting us,
This is not a warranty requirement only a guide to help look after the system longer.
Best regards

This is just wayyy too short. Electric simply keep on running if it is well designed.
Yamaha is so much more you forget the engine you pedal like any bike.
Some choose to plug them.
