Probably better suited to commuter/leisure cycling rather than mtb though

It's quite a neat little system .. You could use it for MTB for the best of both worlds . Just use it for uplift, then unclip your motor to get the extra weight off the rear triangle, drop it in your ebiker mates rucksack to carry down and you're sorted

It's a nice portable idea. The mounting and the drive gears just don't look that strong. Sharing the brake caliper mount - 2 x 5mm bolts?

Nice neat solution but I bet it's quite fragile. Definitely A market for this as long as the price makes sense. I wonder what kind of sound it makes?
i have seen small 'friction drive' units of similar size. A sand paper covered roller that sits on and turns the rear tyre.
