Bike theft advice

Hi all,

Unfortunately I had two bikes stolen this week. I've reported to police and put in an insurance claim, and now just wondering if anyone has advice on anything else I could or should be doing?

Mate of mine had two Specialized bikes ~£13k stolen from a locked outbuilding last year. His experience is the cops won't be interested at all, Specialized geo located one of them when it was swiched on & they still didn't want to know. So, keep on at the insurers until they cough up.

Like we discussed in another thread, getting the location of a bike is usually useless unless you would take it back by yourself with all possible consequences.

Immobilise.com allows you to register a pic of your bike and all of its important details like frame numbers that you can't see once the bike has been stolen. ID numbers engraved on the suspension can also be recorded if the bike is broken up for sale. You can add as much detail as you like and can keep updating it as you upgrade, to keep the description current. Immobilise also has a range of ID tags, security devices and other useful stuff.

OK, it won't stop your bike from being nicked and it won't make the Police help you. But if the bike is recovered, along with hundreds of others, then it can be identified and returned to you.

I had three bikes stolen in May from my garage.
Police had no interest in the theft, just gave me a crime number for my insurance company.
The theft occurred early on the Wednesday morning and by Thursday evening I had a settlement from my insurance company. I wouldn't have bothered reporting it to the police if it wasn't for insurance purposes.
Remember to remove the stolen bikes from your insurance policy once they've paid out, this is not done automatically and should reduce your premium until renewal date or until you add a new bike/bikes.
