Biggest dropper to fit a large e160?

Will be replacing my dropper to get the most travel possible as currently only have 110mm What is the largest dropper that can fit into a large size frame? Does anyone have a rough measure for max insertion length?

150mm dropper i think should fit, that's what I'm leaning towards at the moment. After doing some measurements of my current post, a 170mm travel post would be the perfect height fully extended if there was room enough to run it slammed/fully inserted inside the frame.

Hopefully someone has some experience, Thankss in advance!

The fox transfer 170 doesn’t fit as I tried here in the shop. Transfer 150 works well. Motor our job however.

You are after a small insertion depth dropper, I would look at the one up components. That goes to 180, low depth and can be shimmed to achieve the desired drop if 180 is too much.

I've been looking at the oneup v2 180mm. Looks great. Super short overall length. Short insertion length, 33mm stack height (approx 60mm on most other droppers) and travel can be shimmed down to 170 or 160mm. I think this should fit...Only problem is i have seen some bar feedback on the oneup dropper so I'm unsure if i should take the plunge

Why do you suggest removing the motor to install a dropper? Even if replacing the cable you could use the existing cable to pull the new one through, right?

Sorry. Mine is a 160 900e with the rubbish hydraulic reverb. Hence the motor out to remove. The lower spec e160s just feed the new cable through.

Agreed not required, I've had my Reverb out a few times and the cable pulls through just fine.

On droppers, the Reverb is 440mm long then there is the connectamajig which adds another 55mm and that is on my Medium frame. I run my Reverb with 40mm sticking out and the connectamajig just hits the bend in the seat tube. There's actually quite a bit of room, the shock link bolt is actually external to the tube and the frame further down is larger so a 150mm Fox Transfer (457mm) will fit fine, as will a OneUp V2 180 (480mm) but not fully slammed.

I had a OneUp V1 on my other bike and it was faultless.

Thanks, no problem. Another question... Twice my factory dropper cable was rubbed through, jammed and required replacement. Seems to occur around the bottom of the frame where it pivots. Is there a clamp or protection the should exist in this area? Seems like there is a sharp spot inside the frame causing this but i can't inspect without removing the motor.

Edit: LBS has done this as warranty each time so i am unsure what they have done, if anything, other than replace the cable

Simple answer, I don't know but when I've had my Reverb (hydraulic) out there is a small rub but that is only where the seat tube bends as my post is quite low in the tube and the post plus connectamajig is very long.

If it was me I would fit a new cable outer but I would also fit heat shrink (possibly two layers) over the area where this damage occurs to see if that prolongs the outer cables life.

Not a bad idea. Still undecided which way to go, so i think i will remove and measure this weekend to confirm fitment and at the same time i will be able to check how the cable is doing. I've only ridden it 3-4 times since the most recent replacement. First time it only lasted 2-3 rides before rubbing through again!

Well i found a sweet deal on a Race Face Turbine R 150mm dropper( Re-branded Fox Transfer) for a little over $200aud delivered. It's a nice upgrade as the standard 125mm Merida post failed and was replaced with a 100mm TranzX under warranty.

Can confirm the fitment is good on my large frame - no problem at full insertion. I am running about 20mm extension from the seat tube to get my desired height. Works great, 150mm of smooth travel. Lever is definitely a little heavier than the TranzX but no match for the light action Wolf Tooth lever i have recently added! I can grab some pics if anyone is interested, otherwise can't wait to test it out on Sunday!

Based my my findings i would suggest the 180mm OneUp post should fit no problem as it is similar dimensions to the 150mm fox but with more travel :)

In this pic you may see the cause of your cable issues, a very sharp edged rectangular hole for the cable. My suggestion is don’t pull the cable tight to remove slack in the cable inside the frame.
