BEST EMTB SingleTrack Trail of the Year 2021 - THE SINGLE BOOT EMTB XC RIDE

Best emtb single track trail 2021, a MTB trail we are calling 'The Single Boot', named after BOTG (Andy Lunn) & Single track Scenes (Adam Parker). This ride encompasses a lot of what we strive for as mountain bikers, both on traditional MTBs and EMTBs in a Lakes district ride.

For the BEST MTB Single track Trail we need, Fantastic flowing mtb single track, techy climbs and descents, beautiful forest sections through the Pine trees, riding down streams and gulley, gritty downhills, trails round small villages and some amazing views.

This MTB trail starts in loughrigg at Ambleside and the MTB trail of the year includes locations passing through or riding through SCANDALE LOUGHRIGG SKELWITH BRIDGE BRATHAY PULL WOODS LOW WRAY HIGH WRAY COLTHOUSE HAWKSHEAD IRON KELD OXEN FELL ELTERWATER CATHEDRAL QUARRY LITTLE LANGDALE LANGDALE LOUGHRIGG TERRACE RYDAL WATER

The Single track 'Single Boot' is a new trail, that you wont find anywhere else as it encompasses new sections added on to existing known trails. BE AWARE.. it may take you 5-6 hours currently due to the amount of fallen trees, the forestry commission has a lot of work to do so expect to hike a bike, or have to ride around forestry vehicles. The main forest area we spoke to the Rangers, told us it would be a couple of weeks before all would be removed. (so should be clear now) So many new bits are deviations that don't have names. We took a popular route and added new trails and sections from a local who lives in the area and had been riding all the best trails.

I would have to agree. To claim a title of " BEST EMTB SINGLETRACK TRAIL OF THE YEAR 2021", there might need to be a qualifier of "in my local area!

Why be sorry? If you had a good time riding your bike and making your videos, who cares what other people think! My comment was more about your claim of "The Best Trail of the Year" which is not only a tad subjective due to location but experience as well. Keep on making videos and enjoying your rides. I make videos for myself (and anyone else who wants to watch them) so when I make it to the Old Folks Home, I can reminisce about the good old days . If you want to see effort, try filming yourself, riding down a trail. So much walking!

I have to ask, if you are hoping to "make it" as a Youtube Star/Influencer, what makes your channel that unique in this over saturated market of regular people, riding the same places that everyone else rides? From what I understand of the Youtube algorithm, you will need a lot more subscribers and unique content to get some where.
This Youtuber is quite successful with his style but he also travels to give his perspective at other places.

We spend a lot of time using specialist social media agencies to promote our business. As Knolly says, its about your usp, what’s different.

The agencies we use all have their own secret sauce, but essentially they say:

1. Unique content, whats different? How is the content aimed at your target audience.

2. Grasp the audience in the first 5-10 seconds or you have lost them. Then recapture their attention every 30-45 seconds with a cut scene.

3. Search engine optimisation - this is a big topic but it applies to youtube too. Keywords are urm key, but not clickbait.

4. Promotion from another source/channel.

5. Keep it under 10 minutes long as a general rule of thumb.

6. Regular and consistent uploads.

7. Use high quality equipment and really focus on post production work to bring out the small details.

8. Interact regularly with the audience.

Take this as constructive criticism, as that’s what it’s meant to be

The main issue for me is that you make big or sweeping statements or opinions in your videos about both products and riding, yet it becomes pretty clear that you don’t have much of an in depth knowledge on both the technicalities of the bikes themselves, or the technical side of riding. The title of the video in this thread is a good example of this.

In one of your earlier videos you are riding without a helmet - I don’t know anyone who is serious about mountain biking or experienced who would do that, instantly made me give up on the video.

In multiple reviews and critiques you use incorrect terminology, or clearly don’t know what you are up to in terms of discussing components and maintenance, often at a level that would indicate you have very little experience with bikes and no technical knowledge, and not knowing the correct terms for various parts.

As others have said you need a USP if you want to hold an audience.

Now what I have said above is harsh, but it’s also true, and importantly there are hundreds of bike focused YouTubers who have way more experience and technical knowledge than you - it’s a saturated market.

What I do think is that you can put together a good video, your presenting has come on loads, and that actually it would be far more interesting to view your blogs as about your journey into EMTB, your progression and how and what you are doing to get better at riding, exploring what is clearly some great local terrain, and getting a better technical understanding of bikes and gear.

Currently for me your biggest issue is that you are trying to come across like you know what you are doing when you don’t, when actually the fact you don’t know everything could become your biggest asset, and your USP. Embrace it rather than try and blag it.

I would take Paul the Punter as a good role model, he’s not the best rider or knowledge base, but I like watching his videos about trying to improve his riding and technical understanding.

Sorry if this comes across as having a dog at your content, but if it’s honest feedback you want them that’s mine.

I agree I don't have a vast knowledge of the technical side of the bikes I never have, I always had somebody who fixed and maintained the bikes for me, who is not around anymore. I have been riding on and off for 30 odd years, my first MTB was a Muddy Fox, man I loved that bike.

Riding without a helmet, agreed it was probably not wise to show that ( I rode 50 yards from the car to make the video in the woods near my house, so yes i agree with that). A little unfair to say I am not an accomplished rider, I have had even more skills training this year with we ride to fill the skill gaps, and my riding has developed 10 fold. I pursued Mias accreditation and want to keep moving up.

The technical side I have learned a lot in the last year as I have gotten more into it, including dropping the motor out and fixing creaking by sorting the shims out. Initially I made mistakes yes.. bad ones, but I wanted to show that warts n all because I know others will make the same mistakes, it back fired on me and put me in a hole I don't think I will ever be able to climb out of again.

I have considered closing shop completely its so much work and effort.

Any way as I mentioned, thanks for the feedback and your time, much appreciated. And for the record, this was my trail of the year having been out nearly every weekend this last year.

I think your response says it all - what you have written is really interesting to hear, and would make the basis of great stuff to watch - as I said it my original post but perhaps didn’t make to clear is that the production and presentation of your boss is great, and getting better all the time, and I would say your hard work is paying off on that front.

My reference to the title of the video is that for me I would have called it “ my best EMTB Singletrack of the year” because calling it the best when it’s obviously not puts me off watching the video, but seeing what your best track of the year to have fun on is interesting, if that makes sense?

So in a way what I am saying is if your content just reflects your experience more then it’ll probably get better and better.

The bike industry and tech and associated bullshit is a mindfuck at the best of times and digging into how you wade though that and just focus on the joy of riding and learning is always
