Anyone remember Gripshift?--good for Ebike?

Back in the day, I think there might have been a few of us transitioning from motorcycles to Mt Bikes. and using/liking Gripshift. I did like it back then but lately (I do live in a cave) haven't seen it and thought it was discontinued. But then I broke my NX derailleur and stumbled across it when ordering the derailleur. First ride coming up today

I fitted it on my pedal bike about ten years ago after breaking my hands in a motorbike accident.
Found it less painful to use than trigger ones and whilst new, they worked beautifully but soon got 'gritted' up.
I also seem to remember you had to have a specific rear derailleur but that may just have been a Sram one.
Couldn't wait to get back to normal trigger ones.

I've seen some racers a few years ago use them to operate the dropper post. Other than that, I never liked them, but it works for some.

I hated the first incarnations of grip shift shifters. Mainly as I'd shift in the air when rotating my hands on the grips (especially pulling stylish moves like tables etc.) But also because it was clunky, vague and horrendously stiff to use in the wet/mud. a good few years later later a bike I bought came with SRAM XO gripshift and I was all for swapping it out to XT imediately but thenn I rode it and it actually turned out to be pretty awesome (for the time). I also learned pretty quickly to keep my thumb/forefinger well away from it in the air)
old 10 speed SRAM XO gripshift was probably the best incarnation there ever was. Really light positive shift action and really snappy accurate shifts. Shame it wasn't clutch mech compatible or it'd be worth tracking a (new) old one down.

Be interesting to hear how this modern varient is in use with 11 (or is it 12) speed and wide range cassettes. ie. more resistance from the mech.

it's 11 speed and the shifting is pretty crisp BUT after an hour on the trail it overshifted and buried the chain in that tiny cassette hub interspace--had to break he chain, roll home, and pull the cassette at home.....An overshift on the Ebike going uphill has real consequences

Oops. Yeah. you really don't want the possibility of derrailment at either end of an Eeb as because the motor doesn't stop imediately you have no control of the chain still pulling and can't even freewheel or backpedal if you do hear your chain beginning to overshift or drop.
It's your mech's limit stop screws which stop it overshifting into the spokes or out to the dropouts not the shifter.
Now you've got it home I'd check the mech hanger alignment, mech condition and trueness (thoroughly) and if everything is still ok set it up again paying particular attention to the limit screws. Tug on the inner cable hard or physically compress the mech parallelogram by hand to check the limits are set properly.
Another posibility is that your mech limits may well have been set properly but the mech/hanger had become bent while riding.. A loose mech bolt can also in some cases cause enough movement for an overshift to happen.
Hope it's salvageable.
